Team, the EDPB just released fresh recommendations on when online stores can require users to create an account: and it’s worth keeping on the radar as we shape FluentCart’s next iterations.

Here’s the punchline:

The EDPB suggests that, in many common e-commerce scenarios, guest checkout tends to be the more privacy-aligned option (especially for simple, one-off purchases).

Not a ban. Not a hard rule.

Just a clear regulatory preference grounded in β€œnecessity” and β€œdata minimisation.”

A few useful takeaways:

  1. One-time purchases β†’ guest checkout is usually the expected path

Because it’s hard to argue that a full user account is β€œnecessary” for a single transaction.

  1. Subscriptions β†’ stronger justification for requiring login

Ongoing access, updates, and recurring billing make authentication part of the service itself.

  1. Exclusive memberships β†’ also a potential valid case

If the offer is truly restricted (invitation-only, verified status, etc.), the account becomes part of the contract.

  1. Other reasons (order tracking, loyalty, future purchases, fraud checks) β†’

EDPB frames them as possible purposes, but usually not strong enough on their own to mandate an account.

Again, these are guidelines, not handcuffs.

But they’re a good reference point for dev decisions and UX defaults.

What does this mean for FluentCart?

It’s an opportunity, not a constraint:

  • A clean, first-class guest checkout aligns with these expectations.
  • Optional account creation (NOT forced) becomes best practice.
  • Mandatory login for subscriptions remains fully compatible.
  • Clear boundaries between purchase flow and marketing/loyalty features help keep everything compliant.

If the ecosystem moves this way, FluentCart can stay ahead by making β€œprivacy-smart checkout” part of its value proposition: without limiting merchants who need more advanced flows.

Hope you find this useful :)

Would love to set new forms + calculations with a FluentCart checkout!

Any ETA for Fluent Forms - FluentCart integration?

do you have any plan to integrate ACF with fluentcart?

Hello, if possible, I'd appreciate some help from a French-speaking European to fully understand the need. Hello, I have several online software sales platforms. Two, actually. Each is connected to the same invoicing system. As a result, invoices are generated in the order they are received. The accountant is happy, and so am I ;-) To do this, I use WooCommerce and the link plugin for my invoicing tool, VosFactures. I would like to switch to Fluentcart, but I need to create a plugin that will provide the same link with my invoicing tool. This is mandatory because PEPOLL is required in Belgium and several other European countries. VosFactures will allow me to do this. My use of Fluentcart therefore depends on my ability to create this plugin. I'm currently developing it using Vibe Coding, but I'm not a professional. If someone could help me, I would obviously appreciate a price quote for doing it. Thank you.

Checkout Issue

General question about testing if anyone knows...

if I put FluentCart into test mode, and do a test monthly subscription product purchase with a test Stripe CC number, what happens if I then switch Fluentcart to Live mode before the next monthly payment on this test monthly subscription is due? Would it still process monthly installments in test mode in Stripe for that existing test subscription whilst new signups would now be live?

Would be good if both can run in tandem so that I can test new purchases of new products while existing products are live.

Hopefully making sense here!

Hi, currently Fluent Cart is a bad experience for me. Of all fluent products, this is worst.

I have nog good option to customise look and feel of my shop.

But worst of all is that

  • product page is not in the right URL (path is /blog/fotoshop instead of /fotoshop). I have adressed this earlier, but no update or solution has been made thus far.
  • product page shows no short description, no title, no pricing. I don't understand why, but see attached. On the left my shop page. On the right the example from video on your youtube.

I really love fluent products, but Fluent Carts is a disaster for me. I haven't had such an experience with a plugin since 2013.

Hope some one is able to help me to solve these problems, otherwise I will leave the Fluent. I need a solid solution for my business, and this is not solid by far...

Unsatisfied with Fluent Cart

I'm productizing some services I have offered my clients for over a decade, and am using FluentCart to manage the signup process and subscription management. It has the features I need without additional plugins. I'm also using FluentCRM for email marketing automation and am considering using FluentSupport as well (it's installed but not yet integrated).

I love the #buildinpublic concept, so I am sharing something daily as I build this from the ground up on X and LinkedIn, and I will be posting weekly to my YouTube channel and Substack.

Standout FluentCart features: Upgrade Paths, Built-in Stripe support, One-Click Checkout, Private Products (for onboarding multi-site clients), and direct integration with FluentCRM, FluentForms, and FluentAffiliate when I am ready to launch an affiliate program.

Anyone else building in public?

Building with FluentCart

’I am running merch shops forΒ two football clubs, (more clubs being added) each with its own page.
The problem is thatΒ all products show on both pages, instead of each page only showing items for its own club.

I’m looking for a way toΒ filter products by brand/club, either with aΒ simple setting in the product selectorΒ or aΒ shortcode I can add to each page.

What I need is:

  • Club 1 page β†’ only show Club 1 products
  • Club 2 page β†’ only show Club 2 products

At the moment, I can’t find any option to separate them.
Could you let me know the best way to do this, or if a feature/shortcode exists to make it possible?
