Another big one. We just shipped 2.11 today and we upgraded the whole quiz module. More on that later.

Space Menu Manager

Until now the tabs at the top of a space came in a fixed order. You could add a few extra links and that was it. Now you own that menu. Open any space, go to Settings, there's a new Menu tab.

You can drag tabs into any order, rename them, add an emoji or SVG icon, and hide the ones you don't use. You can add your own tabs too, linking to any URL or to one of your space pages. And you can decide who sees each link: everyone, logged-in members, logged-out visitors, or members of specific spaces and courses.

Advanced Quiz Builder

This is the biggest quiz update since we launched courses.

Six new question types (Pro): True/False, Written Answer, Fill in the Blank, Ordering, Matching, and Image Matching. Everything is graded on the server, and the answers never reach the student's browser. Ordering and matching options are shuffled per student.

New one-by-one layout. One question per screen, progress bar, Previous/Next. Long quizzes stop feeling like a wall.

Per-question explanations. Students see "View Explanation" under each question after they submit. A score says how they did. An explanation says what to learn from it.

Plus shuffle settings for questions and answer options.

Also in this release

  • Students can restart a course. Admins can reset a student's progress too.
  • Works properly with the latest FluentAuth (magic links, 2FA on the portal login).
  • Fixed embedded videos getting blocked by Wordfence and similar WAF rules.
  • Fixed comment count drift after moderation.
  • Block editor and space page labels are now translatable.

If you're building something with the new quiz types or a custom space menu, post it here. I'd love to see it. Please let us know in the comments about this update and what we should ship next. More cooking!

I would like to know what's the best way to work with FluentCommunity. My options are:

  1. Domain | Home page: I could use it as home page of my domain and I'll get something like this: mydomain.com. And I could use a pretty basic theme with pages that I could set to use FluentCommunity templates (frame or full width). With this option probably the style will be limited but everything will be in a single domain.
  2. Domain | Portal: I could have a regular site and install FluentCommunity to be used in /portal or any other slug. If the theme has its own style or branding, probably FluentCommunity will not look similar. The fonts will be different, the style will look different, even if you use the same color palette. Probably it's the default options.
  3. Subdomain: Another option is to set the main site in the domain and FluentCommunity in a subdomain like community.mydomain.com. This is how it's used here. It's good but again, the main site will have its own style and the subdomain will be a different site in terms of look and feel.

How are you using FluentCommunity and what do you think about these 3 scenarios?

Hi!
I read that the Session Expired problem I'm having on my FluentCommunity site is caused by the cache system. As soon as I disabled Breeze plugin (Cache system) the problem is gone. But, is it a real solution? Leave the whole website without a cache system looks like is not a good solution. Could you guide me to sort this issue with the cache system enabled?
Thanks!

It would be useful to be able to lock individual sections or lessons within the course area and make them available only to specific groups, such as VIP members.

Or did I miss something?

I have two questions.

  1. For users who have access to the course: How can I make the landing page look a little bit better than it does now? The lessons overview for example, really doesnt look good and the description section also seems quite limited.
  2. For users who are not logged in or have not purchased the course, I made a couple of lessons available as a free preview. However, I cannot find a way to display them in a more clear way. Right now you just see a list of all the lessons with a lock and for a few, you don't see the lock icon. Is there a way to highlight then or make them pop out more. In any case, to just make it look more attractive than it does now.

A few days ago, I asked about native course search in FluentCommunity. Running an online school, I wanted students to find a specific topic without having to remember which course or lesson covered it.

That got me experimenting with FluentCommunity and FluentPlayer, and I’ve now built a custom extension for our school that lets students:

β€’ Search across courses and lessons.

β€’ Search what’s actually said in the videos, using their transcripts.

β€’ See matching excerpts and jump straight to the relevant timestamp.

β€’ Filter the results by course.

For example, someone looking for β€œlanding pages” can find the relevant explanation inside a lesson, even when those words aren’t in its title.

It also appears inside the header search, alongside Publications and Comments: students can choose Courses and search the video transcripts without leaving that familiar search interface.

I’d still love to see native course search in FluentCommunity. But being able to extend the experience this way is something I really appreciate about the Fluent ecosystem.

Thanks to the WPManageNinja team for building tools that give us room to create things like this. It’s a big part of why I enjoy using and recommending your products.

If you’re building a course site, I’d encourage you to explore FluentCommunity and FluentPlayer together. There’s a lot you can do with that combination.

Has anyone else been experimenting with transcript search or other ways to help students rediscover useful lessons?

I’ve published a walkthrough for our students, with screenshots and a short demo, plus an explanation of the tools behind it. It’s in Spanish, but the screenshots show the workflow: https://enbuscadelfuego.com/buscar-dentro-clases-cursos/

Disclosure: the article includes affiliate links to FluentCommunity and FluentPlayer. The transcript-search extension is our own custom development, not a built-in feature of either plugin.

I send a newsletter out twice a month, and I typically include the links that are in the newsletter in my community as well. Considering that each time I create a post it will trigger an individual email notification if the user has that option on, I was wondering if there's any sort of option (or maybe this can be a feature request) to prevent that post from triggering a new post notification. I know as an alternative, I can maybe create a new group that does not send email notifications (like a newsletter group), but that would seem a little redundant.

Pages (within Spaces) are an absolute gem, and I can't help wondering why we couldn't have the same feature at the community level, outside individual spaces. I'd love to be able to create pages directly from the frontend, without having to go through the WordPress backend, which I always give up on.

I also wish there were a way to group pages together within spaces, perhaps under a single "Pages" (editable name) tab leading to a directory of all the available pages. That would prevent the navigation bar from becoming cluttered as more pages are added.

I've also noticed that page slugs don't seem to update, even after editing them.

Lastly, I'd like to reiterate my request for the option to choose which page members land on when entering a space, rather than always being directed to "Posts" by default.

Thank you!

Hi FluentCommunity team,

When I create a landing page using FluentCommunity’s theme compatibility mode, the Search button disappears from the header menu.

Could you keep the community Search button available on these pages too, or add an option to show it? This would give members consistent access to search while navigating between the community portal and landing pages using the FluentCommunity header.

Ideally, the button should open the same community search as it does inside the portal. If its absence is a bug rather than an intentional limitation, please consider this a request to fix it.

Thank you!

Hello the FC family,
I need your help to decide which five free extensions to release next for FC Extensions. So, I’ve put together this poll.

If you have a couple of minutes, please feel free to take part.

And if you’d like to try out these extensions, as well as the ones already released, simply download the free FC Extensions plugin. You can access the entire catalog with just one click inside the plugin. I’m offering these extensions to the Fluent community, so please enjoy them! πŸ˜€

Feel free to list your preferred order in the comments.

Voting is open until Saturday at noon, and the results will be shared a few minutes later.

Don't hesitate to share this with your friends! πŸ‘

What I'm thinking is: as members join the space, I would like them to automatically recieve all the notifications from that space, instead of having the notifications disabled by default as it is now.

I'm not sure it's a feture request or I just can't find a way to do it.
