I can guess why WP Ninja didn't make a video player right away, because the main problem is not downloading the file, but the need for a mechanism to compress and optimize the file before publication.
Check out how cool they made image loading. Fcom compresses files from 10 MB to 60 KB. And inserting videos via HTML iframe code (if that's just a mega feature that allows you to do a lot)?
Video loading is 100% necessary, but not just a bare video file, but one with a compression and optimization mechanism. This may require an additional server or very smart code (which will be expensive; there was even a TV series about something like this called "Silicon Valley.")
At the same time, I strongly support the author, thank you!
Artur Abakarov I completely have no idea what are you writing about... dude, of course this alpha implementation is just an open door for the rest... and yes, to me transcoding on the fly (queue etc) is a must have. That's why I already jumped on this https://developers.cloudflare.com/stream/
That's why I didn't share today preview plugin - soon it will be ready... but for now limited to folks who use cloudflare r2 so they can have all in place (maybe in future I will make paid version to take all hassle of storage, transcoding etc and pay for that myself)
