What is the best way to presell a FluentCart product?
I am releasing a digital product next week but I'd like to offer it to my subscribers (FCRM) now. What is the best way to presell a FluentCart product?
Ideally they buy today at a discounted price and then the product (download link) appears in their account next week.
I've done this before on Woocommerce and if you do it wrong it's a big pain for customers and me.
I want to avoid problems like this: Add a download to the product later, and it only appears to new customers. Change the download link and it breaks for previous customers.
UPDATE: I did some tests and the good news is that any files you add to a product will show up in the downloads tab of anyone who purchased that product. So you can add or delete files from a product and it updates in the accounts of everyone who purchased it.
The bad news is that if you want to add a product and edit it, there seems to be a bug.
More details in my other post here.
waitβ¦ if you make the product with no downloadable url and people buy it, thatβs basically preordering. As soon as you release the product, just add the download link to the product. Those who bought it can simply login to their account and click the download button. Unless I misunderstood, itβs not that complex. Heck, even put a landing page with a count down as the download URL.
Shayne ThomasΒ does FluentCart work like that? Woocommerce doesn't. If you add a new download, only future purchasers get access.
NicolaiΒ I think it should. Test it?
Shayne ThomasΒ I will, but there are a lot of other tests I'd have to do alongside that one, and presumably somebody knows the answer already. That's why I'm asking here.
Shayne ThomasΒ I finished testing it and the good news is it is possible to add downloads to a product and they will show up in people's accounts even if they purchased before you add it. More details in my bug report here.
Hi Nicolai,
After your post, we thought this was a good idea, so we started a new tool in Toolbox.
On the product you can set the date the file becomes available. You can also limit the download to a WordPress role, a FluentCRM list, or a tag.
It is in final testing now. We plan to release it tomorrow in the Toolbox addon.

Nikhil ModiΒ Yes, that looks good. I think tags in particular is such a powerful way to empower this kind of functionality.
After I posted my question yesterday I realised I should build something like this in Bricks. Tags are the way downloads should unlock in my opinion.
Never mind presales, there are so many things one can do with that functionality. Imagine a product that unlocks a new download as someone completes each module of a FluentCommunity course. That is so easy to do with tags.
