Security Check Failed

UPDATE:
Problem: Safari is blocking the iframe for paypal when customer enables prevent cross site tracking on their safari browser.
Solution: They provided me with a Beta Copy of FluentCart. So if you are running into the same issue please contact them. Hopefully they will post and update soon.
Result: Now, even if the option prevent cross site tracking is enabled, it FluentCart will check manual verification and order will be completed.

I Trust this helps.

Hi Shahjahan Jewel,

I have been getting tickets where customers are unable to make a purchase. They keep getting the message “Security check failed”. Even after refreshing the page, the PayPal and Credit Card links still does not work.

Now here is the kicker. I was able to make a purchase from my Chrome and Microsoft Edge browser.

However if try to use the SAFARI BROWER, IT FAILS. You get hit with "Security check failed".

This is really concerning. Has anyone had this issue before?

Jorge de los Reyes are you experiencing the same. I’ve noticed a drop in sales and wonder if it’s related.

Ryk Melck I’ve noticed this with other carts in the past. It used to be a WAF related issue. But would like to follow the thread just to be aware of possible issues.

If you’re using WAF rules I’ll check them just to discard if it’s related 😄

Ryk Melck

Jorge de los Reyes What’s WAF? Are you referring to Wordfence?

Ryk Melck it refers to Web Application Firewall (WAF).

But in practice I’ll check:

  • Wordfence: in case you use it, sure. It could depend on your settings.
  • Any firewall (7G, or 8G) at server level: the error should be showing in your logs there if this is the case.
  • WAF: Cloudflare or any other service you may be using for this. Again, I’ll check the logs once you make a test purchase.

Testing and checking all your security services is the way to go to find if it could be related.

If the logs are clean in all your services, then I’ll check at a tool level if there’s in fact any compatibility issue or alikes 😄

Just check all your services and let me know. Happy to help if I can.

Jorge de los Reyes I use Cloudflare, I do not use their caching etc. So it's a very basic setup in Cloudflare. I have been using it for many years.

Yes, I also use Wordfence. But I'm struggling to see how this could be the issue. As this issue occurs on Safari. I have deactivated Wordfence and anything to do with Cloudflare on the site, Yet the issue persists.

Shani Cipro

Is it something to do with captcha?

Ryk Melck

Shani Cipro possibly. I use turnstile. I’ve deactivated it and the issue still occurs on Safari.

Shani Cipro

Ryk Melck Have you cleared your cache on Safari? It could be that!

Ryk Melck

Shani Cipro a million times.

Ryk Melck

Shani Cipro but I’m going to double check tomorrow again.

Teddy Skokos

I had the same issue yesterday. I turned off Turnstile and the problem cleared up. But I want Turnstile to be active.

Ryk Melck

Teddy Skokos this was my first thought, I turned off turnstile and the issues still occurred. Strange…I’m 100% sure it’s not an issue on our end. It’s bug and I’m certain of it.

Jorge de los Reyes, Teddy Skokos, Shani Cipro and @fluentlover. I have fluent ticket open and will let you know their findings.

The “Security check failed” message is commonly connected to the checkout security validation, and in some cases we’ve seen it happen when the Cloudflare Turnstile security key/configuration does not match correctly. Normally, that type of mismatch would affect all browsers, so the fact that you’re seeing it only in Safari needs a closer look."

Ryk Melck thank you for sharing this Ryk! Hopefully it can be solved soon!

Teddy Skokos

Ryk Melck thanks Ryk!

Ryk Melck thanks Ryk! I haven't tested it on Safari. I was having the same issue on Edge. I will contact them about it.

Ryk Melck

Teddy Skokos interesting. I'm guessing this is a settings issue again. I don't use edge personally. I just have it as a backup of testing debugging LearnDash etc.

Ryk Melck thank you for letting us know about this Ryk!

Ryk Melck Thanks for the update !

I love FluentCart. But it's annoying that such a conversion-breaking bug doesn't get a public hotfix immediately when the patch is already made by the developers. And we have to wait for a major update before that is fixed. It's very nice that they are handing out a beta version, but I'm not going to put that into a production website.
