When to use Spaces Posts vs Spaces Chat
Can anybody suggest when we should use Spaces Posts/Messages vs Chat Messages (Chat = Messaging app) since it might be strange when Space members are using Chat where every Space Member can access that Group/Space Chat too.
Currently it is not possible to remove the Space Chat thread and users from the end-user view.
Some messages are coming via Space Posts aka Messages and some via Space Chat - it might be annoying to have two places to check.
Should the Space Chat be limited to Space Admins/MODS/selected users only) so only those users can see and respond?
It is easy to receive a SPAM via Space Chat.
I understand that we don't have Space Chat Notifications yet but what are other benefits and difference. What is your opinion? Please share your point of view if you are not shy haha.
But chat you have the option to enable or disable it, right? I like the chat option, but for me is not realtime apparently and I cannot see who is online, with this 2 things is not working very good.
I feel in my side I need to refresh the page constantly to see the updates in messages, notifications, etc which is not convenient
Carlos Rodera the only difference in this case is User Online status and the screen refresh (bug or it is a cache related).
But Group Space Chat doesn't have Online status itself (in this case everybody from the Space can see that Chat) so what is the business case to sent Space Chat for the whole Group: Space.
I am talking in this case for the Group Chat - not a Chat between two single users which is obvious why we want to talk in private 1:1.
Example: someone doesn't want to submit a post in a Space directly because it is a simple question so in this case we should use Chat. Are there are any other examples?
Note: curently we are not able to remove the Space Group Chat from the Chat app if we are not interested in the Space Group Chat conversation there. Also we are unable to remove/delete/archive any 1:1 Chat User too - it stays on our end users list.
You can only disable the whole Chat per Space or disable completly the whole App if you are the Admin. But here we are not Admins but end-users and we need to participate in the Space Group Chat anyway etc.
BTW: it would be good to have the possibility of accepting Chat messages from strangers otherwise everybody can ping us at any time.
Mat ΒΒ I don't really understand everything.
Do you mean non members can access the chat even if the space is only for members?
When you refer to groups, you mean spaces right? because I haven't been able to access any group (collection of spaces) chat.
The cache thing is a major issue, because for me is really non usable this way, on my BuddyBoss Community is not happening, everything is like real time, but I'm looking for a lighter solution as BuddyBoss consume a lot of resources.
For me the Posts, Comments in space is to open a topic, the Space Chat is for direct interact live looking to a real time answer or interaction and private for privacy, I can see the use of everything once we have realtime without this cache issue and being able to see online people to not be speaking alone, but right now if you need to refresh is not usable.
There are two separate places where users can send messages:
-
Directly in to the Space where we can submit Posts or Comments to Posts (for Posts you can use Searchbox later not for Comments or Chat)
-
In the Chat - Chat technically it is a separate add-on to the plugin. The add-on is called Messaging app.
When Chat (add-on) is enabled by the Admin you can see the Envelop icon on the top of the screen but also inside the Space you can see a Chat item on the subheader.
So there are two ways/locations for the Chat.
When using Chat (Top Envelop icon) you can send messages to other users 1:1 but also you can send a Chat message to the Space Chat (I call it the Space Group Chat 1:AllSpaceUsers)
When the Admin enable Space Group Chat during the Space creation it becomes available in the Chat app (both locations: the top envelop icon but also inside the Space in the subheader).
Only Space member users are able to send messages to the Space Group Chat (example: Private Space members) by using the Top Envelop Chat icon since the Space Group Chat is visible on the Chat users list.
BTW: In my case I see both places (Spaces and Chat messages) in a real time - they are being delivered/visible with a small delay for the Ringbell icon for Spaces and the Envelop icon.
Email notifications is a separate topic where there is a delay due to sending transactional bulk emails etc.
I am not sure it this is more clear but ask or share your opinion so the fTeam Ninjas can read it too haha.
If there are any bugs then report them without any hesitation of course so we all can read it and be aware - so it won't happen to us.
So yeah I understood the options as I told why I see the use of all:
"
For me the Posts, Comments in space is to open a topic, the Space Chat is for direct interact live looking to a real time answer or interaction and private for privacy
"
I see realtime problems here in FC Community (not in my installation because I have no users yet) with the live updates, I don't receive notifications, post replies are not updated and points also from likes are not counting, so I'm not sure if I can open right now a paid community.
I saw just one time this envelop from the space chat, I haven't sent any private chat.
And yeah if the space is private should be fully 100% private everything including members and communication or content.
I would like to be able to speak realtime with other users and see who is online, I hope this can be improved.
Edit: I have just checked and only Space members can see the Space Group Chat - not everybody so I just want to be clearly about that setting. But against there is a general question when to use Posts vs Chats - there many business cases so I want to open my eyes for thigns that I don't see but other users are using well.
I found that there is a tab in the chat to see "online members" but all are in grey dot except Shahjahan Jewel, and I think Mat ΒΒ you should be online now
Carlos RoderaΒ Yes I should be online now - the online status is something that also has a delay in update but to be honest nobody report this issue in a past so it's good that you noticed it now.
Yes. The green dot is only with 1 user but all other users looks like ther are inactive (green dot is not displayed with their profile picture in the Chat at all).
- If we can limit Space Chat visibility and participation to admins, moderators, or selected users. This reduces spam and ensures that chat messages are purposeful.
- Admins / Moderators should be permitted to make a chat group and add members to that , could be useful.
