What do you do to retain members in your community?

While I may not have expertise in coding and plugins, I do understand business and how to effectively maintain a community. I'm curious to hear how you all keep your communities thriving.

From my side, one strategy I can share is the Welcome Sequence, which has proven to be one of the most crucial sequences. It has provided me with a 20% increase in retention and greater engagement within the community.

What are your ideas?

Ric Valenzuela

I think retention usually comes down to three things: clarity, momentum, and recognition.

If new members don’t quickly understand where to start, what to do next, and why it matters, they tend to fade out fast. A welcome sequence helps with that first step, but long-term retention usually needs more than onboarding.

What has worked best for us is reducing friction, creating small engagement loops, and making participation visible. Even simple things like progress, recognition, contribution signals, and activity-based rewards can make members feel that showing up actually matters.

That’s one of the reasons we started building a custom points and gamification addon for FluentCommunity on our side. We wanted more control over those engagement loops, not just for rewards, but for retention itself.

Would love to hear what has worked best for others.

Ric ValenzuelaΒ Great to hear your thoughts Ric. Gamification and points is something that is cool but it will not work to my community with parents. It gets really intimidating for many many member to put parents in a "competition" when i strive for nurture, educate and relieve their stress.

Engagement loops are clever also!
