To use FluentAuth or not?

Just curious, I am creating a brand new Community site with FC and I'm wondering if I should use the FluentAuth plugin with FluentCommunity?

Yea, Nay; why or why not?

I don't recommend it because it adds "extra steps" for the user. It's a community website, not a bank login.

  • frustration
  • waste of time
  • not that fancy of a belly & whistle product
  • not your responsibility to worry about other user security
  • list goes on and on...

It's the year 2026, anyone not using a password manager is fair game. If you really want magic login links, sent via email, or 2FA one-time codes, this might be a good fit for you but I, like many, hate all this password nonsense that was introduced last 5 to 10 years. It's horrendous... and it doesn't even work.

Deckard CainΒ Thanks for the advice. I don't remember using it the last time I was using FC about a year ago. I thought then that the "security" of the FC plugin was pretty good within itself. I also use Wordfence and Cloudflare WAF Rules. So, that should be sufficient enough, right?

Overkill in my opinion!

Sufficient? πŸ˜…

Just depends what your looking for, I favor MAX performance over anything else. Never been a fan of Wordfence... it's just a big bloat beast... 7MB is insane and not worth the trade-off imo. I think best practice security/hardening is done at web host level... CF does a great job!

I can't use it because it use email as a username πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

Diego MaradonaΒ Ok, thanks.

It's a must for me... I use it because it protects my site and has different logins methods
