The Inverted Funnel Model: A Game-Changing Strategy
Note: There’s no one-size-fits-all model; only the one that suits you best. Don’t follow anyone blindly—not even this article. Understand yourself.
If you are someone who:
- Works because you love it.
- Wants to play a long-term game with long-term people.
- Aims to build a sustainable, lasting business.
- Seeks steady, consistent income over time.
Then the Inverted Funnel Model might be the strategy that changes the game for you.
Traditional Funnel (Old Model):
- Pick a niche and target audience.
- Use content and ads → Attract potential customers.
- Follow up and build trust → Convert them into customers.
- Make sales → Get paying clients.
→ Focuses on What you offer, then Who will buy it.
Inverted Funnel (New Model):
- You are the niche.
- Use your personal interests to attract people who share your vision and lifestyle.
- Give value → Build true fans.
- Create a community → Recruit members.
- Build influence → Grow a loyal following.
- And this following will bring more members, fans, and support back to you (reversed conversion).
→ Focuses on the Who, then the What!
Disadvantages:
- Takes time—relationships don’t happen overnight.
- Needs care and attention, like a mentor guiding their students: listen, share, and connect personally.
- Earnings grow slowly, but they’re more stable and lasting.
Advantages:
- You get to do what you love!
- People are drawn to your real self—the Who, not just the What.
- Value created builds on itself: members bring in more members, making your efforts grow over time.
- Income based on trust, allowing for different revenue sources: memberships, small offers, premium offers (and more).
I like to call it the “Missionary Model” because of its focus on values and connection.
And Fluent Community is a great plugin to help you implement this model!

Tobi Salami, Yes, Glad to be useful to you. I really like Community Funnel and Fluent Community makes it easy for me to do it right on WordPress with full control over the Data 😉
Hoang Hxn would recommend to do both (traditional and inverted). Also, imo, neither model will be sucessful long term if we don't give value to others.
Debo Ogunrinde, Yes, I currently use a combination of both funnels. Each one applies to a different business model.
