The Followers System Needs Real Improvement

Honestly, the current followers system in the community doesn’t add much real value — it feels more like decoration than a functional feature.

When a user posts updates on their profile, these posts are visible to everyone, even to those who don’t follow them. This makes the main feed cluttered with irrelevant content. Even worse, if a user posts too frequently, it becomes annoying and may lead others to block them just to clean up their feed.

🔹 Main Suggestions:

  1. Posts should appear only to followers, not to all users.

  2. Add a proper friends system — when two users follow each other, they become friends, and their posts/messages get priority visibility.

  3. Add a mute feature that hides a user’s posts without needing to block them.

🔸 Privacy & Control Features:

  1. Allow users to control who can see their followers and following lists.

  2. Allow users to choose who can message them (everyone, friends only, or no one).

  3. Add an option to lock the profile, making it private and visible only to approved followers.

  4. Add the ability to change the account password directly from the community profile.

🔸 Technical Suggestion:

  1. Include all follower system strings and text in the Loco Translate plugin, so admins can easily translate them from the dashboard.

These improvements would make the followers system far more useful and professional — giving users real control over their experience in the community.

I find option 3, "Mute User", very useful.

Very good recommendations, I support each and every one of them.

Hamza , I'd like to add to your suggestion for Privacy & Control Features: #3 the ability for a user to block certain other user(s) from seeing their profile.
