space maker

is there a member setting that allows a member to make a new space? only his/her space. i now only see an option where a user has full access.

AS W

I think only admin and moderators can. Fcom doesn’t allow for changes coming from the members. I’m not mad about it personally because to me, that makes things too chaotic. I don’t think they will ever plan to give this option

Anne-Sophie WΒ to me a space is like a facebook group. in my opinion that makes the site more dynamic and fun

AS W

Han Van I see what you mean, but why would your members want to make a space in your community if Facebook exists? I don’t think we should want to emulate what exists elsewhere. But of course it’s just my opinion. It depends on what type of community you are building I guess

Han Van

Anne-Sophie WΒ we don't need FC, we have facebook. true.

Anne-Sophie WΒ Because FB has the habit of closing groups, large ones with heaps of activity, for no valid reason (yes, happened to me @ 5 years and 95K members), also you lose the oppurtunity for brand authority as a site owner, if they use FB as a medium. If thats important to you, which I guess to a lot it may not be.

I also would be in favour of member created course content (with approval and override processes possibly)

Han Van

John WatersΒ i like FC because i dont like facebook. yes, with approval of course. but making spaces and courses is essential.

In theory, it could be done either programmatically or maybe using one of the automation tools like FlowMattic (not sure if it has an action to create a space though). You could create a form for users to submit a request to create a space that would then create the space programmatically. Approvals could be added to the process as well.
