SEO, Best Practice..?

Hi.. I have a general stupid question. Whats the best SEO approach for setting up Fluentcommunity site structure and get best results?

Note: this is for a local site. not necessary for courses (spaces), it will include Activity Feed, Members, and a few Spaces, one Space will be called Announcements (local events, news, etc). The goal is to create a Twitter like experience and shift away form big tech platforms..

For example a community site for a small town neighborhood. Is it wise to use a dedicated blog on the homepage for SEO, or depend on just the "Space" posts? The site Admin will be posting daily and we are trying to understand best way to achieve seo results. IMO I dislike the long url link "portal/space"

I’ll suggest:

  • Send both site maps: main site and community.
  • Keep spaces names short, as well, if possible, post names too. They will be truncated and some keywords of the slug may fall behind. Probably not a big issue, but after a couple of testings, I found short-words approach more accurate.

That being said, I think that if the content is good, you’ll be fine just making sure you send the sitemap (and checking if all the preferred items are listed).

Also, I’ll add that you should check your robots.txt file.

This “simple” approach, worked fine during our testings of public communities (legal aids, lawyers, digital businesses, among others).

That being said, currently, we are more focused on private communities and portals, so sadly, I can not share specific examples. But give this 3 steps a try and let us know what are your findings.

I was pretty pleased to see how “fast”, all our posts were ranking. So I am sure that, as it’s usually the case, if you keep the good content running and make sure you are not putting any technical burdens (like the ones previously referred), you could be getting really good results .
