Running learndash and fluentcommunity together
I have many courses currently built on LearnDash, and migrating them all to FluentCommunity will take time and effort. So I was thinking — what if I build my new courses directly in FluentCommunity, while keeping the old ones on LearnDash until I’m able to migrate everything?
I’m trying to envision the user experience: as a student, how would one access both the old and new courses? This is the part I find confusing and haven’t figured out an elegant solution for yet.
Has anyone here dealt with something similar? Any suggestions or ideas?
You're right, it's a tedious affair. I migrated off LearnDash when I went to Searchie (now Membership.io). Then I did it again with two sites migrating them to FluentCommunity.
You could ask your audience if it matters to them. I think your approach keeps everything available while you migrate. The problem comes with student progress when you turn off one and turn on the other. I don't see a way around that issue.
William Beem thanks, I guess is a general issue, migrating is always painful. I am curious why did you migrate to fluentcommunity? How is our experience?
Luis Minvielle I used a SaaS tool that was expensive and new features were slow to roll out. They didn't even have community pages until I discovered FluentCommunity. By then, it was too late. I already made up my mind to move. Besides, they only have one discussion page per site.
Many integrations had to rely on Zapier, which turned into another expense.
The feature they have that I really like is that uploading the videos (which were hosted on the platform) was automatically captioned, and then you could let people search. When it got a hit on text in the captions, the search result would take you to the place in the video where your query was mentioned.
I'm currently using Tutor LMS, switching from the Moodle platform, and would like to be able to migrate all of my Tutor LMS Pro courses and everything to the FluentCommunity Courses module, but it just isn't up to par (yet) to meet what structure, layout, progress status, quiz building, etc... yet. So, for now, I'm kinda stuck with using both. I'm hoping that the FluentCommunity Courses feature will eventually soon be as robust as what we have in Tutor LMS or at least a way to migrate everything over from Tutor to FC Courses with minimal re-editing and re-building of each course.
I have courses in Thrive Apprentice and FCommunity, no problem at all. They log in in Apprentice Dashboard from where they go to the community.

I love the Thrive Suite, but sincerely, it's not an ecosystem as innovative and up to date as "the ninjas" are :)
Jorge de los Reyes damn good question....as a loooong time thrive customer i really love Apprentice, the possibilities, the look & feel of it and the customizations you could make (build a customer Dashboard, etc.). And that's what i'm missing when using community platforms for my courses, it somehow never feels like my course-platform, but any platform (if you know what i mean). I think it's not even the students that care that much about the feel of my platform, but somehow i do, haha
But on the other hand, thrive and the whole Automator drama really makes it hard to stay with them, trust them. And since i'm using breakdance as a builder on my site, i can't even use Apprentice on the main-domain, but have to use a sub-domain and a proper wordpress theme, which makes it even harder to connect 2 Websites, Apprentice and FCommunity, when Automator goes away.
Yeah, i could easily just use uncanny or any other paid tool to replace Automator, but since i invested in a lot of Fluent tools, i think i'm just gonna use FCommunity for my courses, too.
In my experience the students never cared about 2 separate places to go and if you give them a central hub, where they find all courses and relevant links (what i do with the apprentice-dashboard) it's just one more click for them to go to e.g. the community, so forget about friction.
My honest opinion:
If you already have/ use an alternative to automator, are on an old payment plan, still trust them, then i would probably just stay with apprentice.
If you're like me, who also plans to use FluentCart - and i don't think we'll see an apprentice integration soon - and are pissed because of the automator drama, you'll maybe be better of if you just leave apprentice behind
