Questions
Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking for a while about adding a community area to my website, and I have a few questions — maybe you can help me out:
- Is it currently possible to display regular WordPress pages within the community? For example, category pages or blog posts?
- Does FluentCommunity work with SureMembers to restrict access to specific pages based on membership levels set in suremembers (e.g., Free / Pro / Elite)?
- Can I integrate a calendar booking system like LatePoint within the community area?
- Is it possible to use shortcodes within community posts?
- any news about app integration by 3rd party?
- Can i change the fonts inside of the community to a special google font for example?
Would love to hear your insights — thanks in advance!
Hi there
- Yes, depending on theme you use, FC has something called theme compatibility. basically any wp page, you change page type to a FC one and when you do that the WP page shows inside the community. Note: most themes work with it. About categories and blog posts, no idea, but there is a free plugin done by a member of this community that does the contrary. Check fluentcommunityaddons.com
- Not sure about SureMembers. but if SureMembers integrates with FluentCRM, you can restrict community spaces with tags (free member tag, paid member tag, etc.).
- Normally any calendar plugin that uses the existant WP USER TYPES would work with FC.
- What do you mean by short codes within the community? and what type?
- App is built by a third party so the admin here said that he can not say much about timing, but soon enough I guess.
Cheers
Adel Kassouri Yes, but the page reloads completely, doesn't it?
Attila Szabó Yes, when using the theme compatibility feature. However, most of the time on my site you can't tell. The top menu and side menu don't appear to flash/reload at all even though they actually are.
Thomas Oates Thank you! I'm asking because we want to put pages in the menu rather than anything else. A few courses and 5-8 pages, and only 1-2 discussion spaces. Do you think it still makes sense to use FC?
Adel Kassouri For example use a calender short code to display it inside the community :-)
Attila Szabó and Thomas Oates You guys should check with the theme developer because the standard WP theme works great and doesn't cause those issues.
Patrick Müller No idea, I don't use any Booking system in my actual community, but i think it won't work for now. You can always turn the booking page into an FC page. Also check FluentBooking, it may have what you need.
Adel Kassouri In my case, I am the theme developer. :) My theme is the most basic theme possible now that I'm using the theme compatibility feature.
Attila Szabó What content is going to be on the 5-8 "pages"? Do they exist already?
Adel Kassouri does not reload the page?
Ross FCA We have a fitness membership site which contains so many pages. Video library (hundreds of videos)
Points and rankings (Gamipress)
Educational materials
Favorites, saved videos
Weight change tracking plugin
Diet
Recipes
Referral program
Etc.
These are all on separate pages. The community is a Facebook group. We are considering FC, but since we have 90% content and 10% community, we only need 1-2 discussion spaces, 4-5 courses, and the rest would be pages. Therefore, I am not sure if FC makes sense.
Practically speaking, I see this as the biggest weakness of FC: if you want more than courses and discussions, then it's limited.
We considered SD, but development is incredibly slow and it's not as nice and fast as FC.
Attila Szabó Not sure...but I can tell you how we are going to be using FC since it is somewhat similar. We will have some FC spaces (I'm guessing around 20) but that won't be the main focus of the site and they likely won't get a ton of use. Most of our content will be using normal WordPress pages. These include knowledgebases broken up into 4 or 5 pages, lots of forms with each having their own WordPress page, any many other regular WordPress content pages (many of which use shortcodes from other plugins). This new site is replacing one we built in 2019. Before I came across FluentCommunity I had planned on buying a good admin site HTML template online and converting it to a WordPress theme. The advantage of using FC is now I don't have to do that and FC has all the extra basic site features we wanted like nice login page, dark mode, etc. The ability to use spaces for the lightly used discussion groups we have is a bonus. Hope that helps.
Attila Szabó yes, this all would work. You’d use Suremembers AND FCRM for access control. Suremembers for creating Access Groups for your restricted pages, FCRM for access to FC spaces. I have that setup.
Kaneisha G. Thanks a lot, nice!
thanks for the fast replies! I forgot one question: Can i change the fonts inside of the community to a special google font for example?
Patrick Müller yes you can; check this comment with the necessary code: https://community.wpmanageninja.com/portal/post/fonts?comment_id=21275
1 - Page integration doesn’t work with Betheme
Patrick Müller still working on getting this setup? Let’s figure it out together!
