Public Spaces

A public Space does not have a ban list for one user, but you can work around it like this:

If they already joined, open the Space → Members → Remove from space. Just note they can join again while it stays public.

If you want to stop them completely, go to Members in the portal → open that user → edit profile → set status to Blocked. That blocks them from the whole community, not only this Space.

This is really the problem:

There needs to be an option for admins to manually approve membership of a publicly visible Space, or alternatively to prevent specific users from joining a particular Space.

I need Spaces to remain public because the content should be visible to visitors and search engines. Making a Space private solves the membership problem, but removes all of that public content and its SEO benefit.

At the moment, if a user repeatedly posts marketing content in the wrong Spaces, I can remove their post and remove them from the Space, but they can simply join again and repeat it. Blocking them from the entire community is far too severe (if they don’t understand) when the issue is only their behaviour within particular Spaces.

So effectively public Spaces are a bit of a free-for-all from a moderation point of view.

Ideally, I think a public Space needs either:

• Public visibility + approval required to join, or
• A per-Space block/ban option for individual users.

That would allow the content to remain public while still giving admins proper control over who can participate.
