Profile UNIFICATION
I think, FluentCart launch, could be a good fit to re-think "Profile" settings.
Problem: Right now, if we use /portal and community as our dashboard, it looks amazing. But, if the users clics on their profile, they will not find anything related to their profile out from the community.
I mean: there is no option to customize the Profile page.
Allowing to do this, will be super handy.
This way we could be able to unify:
- Community profile
- FCRM lists and custom post types (Shortcodes)
- FluentCart invoices and history
- Affiliate portal
etc
Not sure how this could be implemented. Maybe shortcodes will be the way. But, anything that allow us to customize #user_url will make the difference.
I thought about this as well when I started reorganising my community website. This would be extremely helpful and much clearer for the users (and for myself as well π)
Gee AdriaanszΒ yaaaas!
Iβm hopeful the team will listen haha
Yes! I would love this! And I'd love for the header bar to still be the FluentCommunity header when people are looking at roadmaps, support tickets, bookings, etc. It would create a really unified experience β especially when FluentCart comes in!
Shani CiproΒ hey Shani! Thank you for sharing your feedback too!
I just wanted to reply to you because, you can have now the header and sidebar on any page of your choice.
Maybe you missed the update of βfluent community templateβ.
Just go to: Edit Page > Block settings > Templates > and choose between the full screen or the boxed fluent community theme π
Hopefully we can see the enhancement of the profile tab too soon πͺ
Jorge de los ReyesΒ This is amazing! Thanks for this! I changed a bunch of my pages with your advice β now I just need to figure out how to make them mirror dark/light mode haha!
Hopefully notifications across all Fluent products can be unified, too, so users can get notifications for updated support tickets and upcoming appointments through the FluentCommunity portal!
Shani CiproΒ happy you get to update all your pages!
The look is amazing! π
Iβll also love to see that feature youβre talking about (notifications for tickets and so).
Do not hesitate to add it to the roadmap. Iβll up vote it!
Note: you may want to check if on the mobile version of your FC themed pages youβre able to scroll through to the bottom on the sidebar. I have recently reported we were unable to reach the bottom on the sidebar on this pages using the FC template π
This topic is complex because there are sites that:
- use FluentCommunity and others that don't,
- use FluentCart and others that don't,
- use FluentSupport and others that don't,
- use FluentAffiliate and others that don't.
As a result, there isn't a single best solution for everyone. I truly believe the best approach the Fluent team can take is to offer multiple flexible options.
Below, I suggest a scenario for webmasters who use FluentCart, Fluent Support and Fluent Affiliate WITH and WITHOUT FluentCommunity.
1. For websites WITHOUT Fluent Community, the FluentCart dashboard should be the default user dashboard and allow the webmaster to:
- add Fluent Support and Fluent Affiliate as subsections (using shortcodes), similar to what we can see on https://fluentcart.com/account/ with 'Support Tickets' and 'Affiliate Dashboard'. But it should also be possible to keep tickets and affiliate out of the FluentCart dashboard for those who want to.
- have fully custom subsections that can be placed in any position (even the first one), created using the block editor, shortcodes ({first_name}, {plan_name}, {plan_end}...), and conditional logic to display content based on FCRM tags.
2. For websites WITH Fluent Community, I believe we should not put anything unrelated to the community on the user profile (https://community.wpmanageninja.com/portal/u/) for clarity purposes.
I would rather suggest that when you click the avatar on the top-right corner of the screen, the popup should only show three default links:
- a 'My Account' link leading to the FluentCart dashboard* (if the site uses FC), in which the support and affiliate dashboards would be incorporated or not as seen above,
- a 'My Community Profile' link leading to the user profile (https://community.wpmanageninja.com/portal/u/),
- a logout link.
Next, the webmaster should be able to add additional links to this popup if they wish (especially relevant if the site doesn't use FluentCart), such as:
- a 'My Support Tickets' link leading to the support tickets dashboard*,
- a 'My Referrals' link leading to the affiliate dashboard*.
*All linked dashboards (FluentCart, Support, Affiliate) would be pages using shortcodes within a FluentCommunity page template for seamless integration.
As for the 'My Spaces' and 'Bookmarks' links currently shown in the popup, I would remove them by default since they're only related to the community, therefore should be found within the user profile tabs only.
Laurent FaΒ I get your point, Laurent, but you only need two complaints like βI couldnβt find where to cancel on βmy profileββ or βI didnβt know my profile was publicβ to see how fast that βseparationβ turns into a legal / business / support headache.
When two systems touch user data, fragmentation isnβt flexibilityβ¦ itβs risk.
One endpoint. One identity. One consent trail.
Thatβs how you stay scalable, compliant, and trusted.
And Iβm sure the team knows this better than anyone - they manage thousands of users.
Flexibility is great. But coherence is what keeps it safe.
The good thing is the system is flexible enough and still evolving so as to allow us to build up following any required needs.
Hello Jorge de los Reyes!Β
I'm not sure to understand your point. Coherence is exactly why I made these suggestions.
- A clear separation between everything community related (the "community" profile as I mentioned) and everything else (payment, support, affiliate activity) by default in the avatar popup at the top-right corner,
- But with the ability to customize the links in it so that webmasters without FCart still can link to the support tickets and/or affiliate dashboards if they use it/them.
Hello Laurent Fa!
Then weβre totally aligned! π
I initially thought you were suggesting to separate Affiliates, Cart, Community, and Support into different dashboards or pages - which could easily become confusing (and even risky) when managing customers.
Regulations are quite clear on this: account management should be as easy as purchasing. That's what I was talking about coherence (from a consumer point of view).
What I meant by βUnified Profileβ is a single page (like WPMN has) where all tabs are consolidated.
Regarding your point about customizing links - thatβs already possible! You can actually edit any links in the avatar popup. πͺπ»
If I'm not mistaken, WPMN uses the Fluent Cart dashboard. What if the webmaster doesn't use FCart on their site? This is why I said we need to see things from each and every perspective.
But let's say we have a FCart type of dashboard on FCommunity: do you then suggest we should add a community tab leading to the user's community profile and that it would be the only defaut user dashboard?
If that's the case, it means their profile would be two clicks away, right? I wouldn't mind personally.
Laurent FaΒ Ah, you're totally right - I hadnβt realized the customer dashboard was actually the one from FluentCart.
And yes, that was exactly what I meant (Β add a community tab leading to the user's community profile and that it would be the only defaut user dashboard?)
What I had in mind was something similar to that - but capable of integrating all community-related options in a unified way.
In fact, I still believe a few additional tabs we discussed (like βCoursesβ inside the user profile) are yet to be incorporated, and thatβs where the unification could really shine.
The goal would be to have one central space that brings everything together (Community, Courses, Support, and Profile) instead of sending users through different dashboards.
Thatβs the kind of consistency that makes the experience seamless.
Jorge de los ReyesΒ The question is: should courses have their own tab in this dashboard (rather than the user profile /portal/u) ?
I'm for it because it's not related to the community.
Laurent FaΒ I was talking about the UX of /portal/u :)
We have Post, Comments... And the team already talked about adding there Courses.
Many will probably never use it (could make no sense on a Membership). But has been mentioned before
If your post is only about revamping the user community profile, then you only want to unify the UX for a website with a community.
I'm trying to find a way to unify the dashboard for websites with AND without FCommunity.
This is why I came to the conclusion that this unified dashboard should look like the FCart one on WPMN, and the user community profile and courses would be two additional (and unrelated) tabs.
Does it make sense?
Laurent FaΒ Totally :)
I've put together a mock-up* of what I have in mind to see if we're 100% on the same page or if there are still some points of contention that you disagree with.
*Well, only two pages, but it's enough to illustrate my point.
Then, I'll try to generate interest on my end, based on the hybrid solution we've agreed on.
Laurent FaΒ This would be very helpful indeed! I imagine it like this as well π
Gee AdriaanszΒ Thanks for the support!
Laurent FaΒ Sure Laurent! This looks pretty nice :)
Also, not sure of what you would think of including it on one of this tab (the first one for example).
Jorge de los ReyesΒ You mean the custom content in the About page?
Laurent FaΒ Not really. Just like an extra tab that could be something like "Profile". In which to introduce all the Customer Dashboard options like in your mock :)
Just thinking out loud.
Jorge de los ReyesΒ Why? You can already access it by clicking your avatar on the top-right corner.
Also, the user profile should only be community related (and its first purpose is for people to know more about other members.
So if you ask me, it would be confusing.
Laurent FaΒ Totally right!
It's just that I like that kind of UX. And it will be more integrated (just my opinion).
But, sincerely, while thinking of that I completely forgot that, indeed, that is also the section that could also be checked by any user. So, as you said, yes, that would be confusing :)
Jorge de los ReyesΒ Well, I'm sure the Fluent team could make certain tabs only visible by you on your user profile but as you said, it's confusing because things unrelated to the community should not belong here.
