Post Retention after a user is not subscribed in my community or their subscription is expired.
Hi Fluent Community team,
I would like to propose a feature request regarding content retention when a user's membership or subscription expires.
Currently, if a user's subscription lapses and they lose access to the community, any posts or discussions they started can become inaccessible or hidden. This can unintentionally erase valuable community discussions, threads, and the time other members spent replying to them.
Suggested Feature: Introduce a setting or behavior where:
- Revoking a user's access due to an expired subscription blocks the user from logging in or participating.
- Their historical posts, threads, and comments remain visible on the platform as archived content so that valuable discussions and community knowledge aren't lost.
This would help keep community archives rich and prevent valuable troubleshooting or conversational threads from disappearing entirely when a user leaves.
What do you think? Would love to see this considered for a future update!
Interesting idea, does content disappear over time once a Member has left or been removed from the Space? π€
David ChurchillΒ When a user subscription is over, he takes a fluent crm tag that is blocked from the community and then all his posts dissapear!
Ioannis GlossopoulosΒ yes I understand, add/remove tag to grant/restrict access, but are their post/comments removed or disabled when they leave the space? Does the author stay intact? Iβll run some tests π
David ChurchillΒ I think comments and posts are hidden when a user is back with an active subscriber. Itβs like an on/off
Oh, I didn't realise! That would be bad, if suddenly valuable content disappears... π¨
Maybe instead the Auther could be anonymised instead? Like with Reddit and the "deactivated user"-Tag. And when they come back, they get reactivated?
Same if a user want's to delete their account. It would be really bad if everthing gets deleted as well...
Thatβs an interesting point; it would be good to simply be able to hide the content for a certain period, after which it would be deleted. I suppose we have to ensure that the user is the one who decides to delete their contentβespecially in Europe, given data protection laws.
JosΓ© Carlos EstiradoΒ That's an interesting point, we have to look that. My problem is that serious conversations and comments are being hidden when a user is not an active subscriber in the community.
Ioannis GlossopoulosΒ Even though I know some people may disagree with me, I never recommend "guest checkout" for e-commerce, nor do I advise allowing users to enter communitiesβeven free onesβwithout at least a free initial registration; this way, we have the user on board, allowing us to capture their data and interact with them seamlessly.
JosΓ© Carlos EstiradoΒ I do not have guest checkout, that would be a disaster!
Ioannis GlossopoulosΒ And since they are registered, can't you ensure that their posts and comments remain on record even if they unsubscribe?
