New CPT for community
I am sure, it will be such an incredible addition to be able to add a new CPT category for the community.
RESOURCE
Many communities have this (workshops, templates, docs, guides β¦).
Some create a CPT for guides ; some for resources, etc
But I am pretty sure, any community can Benefit from this addition.
And it could help us manage all our resource libraries for our students.
I mentioned this during the beta π. And canβt stop seeing it now on new fresh communities.
Please consider this Shahjahan Jewel π
What does CPT mean?
Szymon JakubowskiΒ It stands for βCustom Post Typeβ (CPT).
By default, WordPress only gives you Pages and Posts.
But you can create other types of βpostsβ to manage different content and categories.
π Example:
- A typical LMS uses a Courses CPT β
yourdomain/courses/course-name - You could also create a Resources CPT β
yourdomain/resources/resource-one
This way, each CPT can be structured like an Archive page (blog, course archive, etc).
At the moment, Fluent Community already uses CPTs for:
yourdomain/portal/coursesyourdomain/portal/spaces
My suggestion:
Add more flexibility by including in the core something like:
yourdomain/portal/resources
Or -even better - allow us to create new CPTs with the same Fluent Community UX.
Creating CPTs in WordPress is easy. The challenge is keeping the integrated UX/UI experience if we build them ourselves.
That way, we could create βresources,β βguides,β βworkshops,β or any other type of archive - just as smoothly as we currently create a course or a space.
Jorge de los ReyesΒ Thank you!
Szymon JakubowskiΒ Happy to share.
It's such an interesting function for creating "libraries" or repositories π
Jorge de los ReyesΒ I'm not quite sure if this might help, but I've noticed that the Blocksy theme has a CPT feature. But I think you're looking for a solution within the FC portal. So again, I'm not sure if this will be helpful.
The GSΒ with CPTs function inside the core, you will be able to create not only the existing /space or /course but also, something like /resource.
Or, as you are looking for, /page /business and so on. With the elements that you prefer :)
You could give my Pages plugin a whirl? It's due an update that will expand on what it can do, but for now it adds a /pages/ CPT (integrated, not a theme compatibility page). As fluent community doesn't load any default wordpress styles, the majority of blocks available won't work correctly so I've included a few basic ones that take on the fcom styles and work with your custom colours and dark mode etc. You can then use the "link" option to link to these /portal/page/slug pages.
You can grab it here free https://fluentcommunityaddons.com/

Ross FCAΒ Thank you Ross! I'll check it. Appreciate it
I am still just sharing initial thoughts on core functions. But definitely, I'll check all other add-ons once we have everything ready :)
Ross FCAΒ I tried twice on two websites but I think it's because they use a builder? Breakdance specifically. If I remember correctly, it actually broke my website. Would love to figure this out so I can use it.
That would be fantastic, I support this.
That would be absolutely fantastic. I meant to make a post here a few weeks ago but forgot. Jorge, thanks for posting.
Lukas ListΒ Thank you Lukas!
I've been bringing this up since the beta tbh!
But it was just now, when I migrated to the Courses Module that I realized, again, how useful this could be.
Specially, when it's starting to become a "standard" in other communities I am following.
I created myself a repository with ACF.
We also have "Theme Compatibility".
But, I am sure, this could be part of the core.
So as to be more UX aligned.
Hopefully this gathers some attention on the roadmap! https://community.wpmanageninja.com/fluentcommunity-roadmp/#/idea/1066/
Very useful features
Jorge de los Reyes I feel the same way... the course module is great, it's just a shame that you can't copy it and use it for other areas... e.g. tools, exercises, impulses, etc... you could build an absolutely wonderful community.
FluentCommunity is awesome but that would be an icing on the cake.
Which would also be interesting if you could add ePubs for direct reading.
It occurs to me that barrier freedom is very important in Europe, so maybe WP Manage Ninja could do something about it too.
Lukas ListΒ Absolutely agree, Lukas. From the little collaboration/conversations Iβve had with the team these past months (mainly around the FluentCart tax module), I can say theyβre building everything with great care, dedication, and real attention to European needs.
Still, I totally share your wish - if they polish the Courses module a bit more, itβll be an absolute powerhouse. Those small details make all the difference.
And about the ePubs - thatβs a great point. It might actually be possible to build a custom online e-reader using HTML and ChatGPT. In our test CPTs we did something similar for lead magnets, and it worked beautifully. There are even tools for Amazon KDP or PDF that let you create very sleek embeds for that kind of content. Of course, weβd still need proper CPT management inside FluentCommunity - but at least the visual/reading side can already be covered quite well!
