Independent Analytics Feedback?

I recently came across this interesting plugin, and I’ve noticed a few discussions here saying it isn’t suitable for tracking FluentCommunity pages, courses, and related views.

If any of you are actively using it, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Independent Analytics Feedback?

Well, if your interest in it is at all related to data ownership and/or privacy, it’s important to know that both the free and paid versions share the data with Freemius. Came as a nasty shock to me so I’m trumpting this as widely as possible.

Charlotte D Thanks for pointing it out!

I genuinely appreciate you jumping in.

Just to clarify for anyone reading: the feedback I’m collecting is more about real-world use, utility, and workflow, not so much the licensing layer.

To my knowledge, Independent Analytics has been around for a while now, with a pretty active roadmap, and according to their docs they only use Freemius for licensing data, not visitor analytics (I guess, just technical telemetry).

So basically, you have an opt in for this during the installation wizard. And an opt out option afterwards in case you regret that. Apparently, this opt out was in fact not working until 2023 or so.

Still, good call raising it. These things matter!

PS.: I’ve also seen that Independent Analytics is referring to an “independent analysis conducted by David McCan .I’ll leave his post here: https://www.webtng.com/freemius-privacy-issues-what-were-they-what-changed-is-it-enough/

I’ll have to check the API request and other technical info of the tool myself to verify any GDPR related matter. But until that, I’m tagging here David that maybe can share info with us about this Independent Analytics. And/or about his current opinion on Freemius - taking into account the post is from 2023.
