The monthly cost of sending transactional emails?
Please help me out, gang. 🙏
I'm trying to estimate what the cost of sending transactional emails will be as my community scales. Would you please help me (and probably many others!) by answering a few questions.
1) How many members does your FluentCommunity have?
2) How many spaces does your FluentCommunity have?
3) How much does it cost you each month to send just your transactional (not marketing emails like newsletters or promotional material!) emails?
4) Do you do anything to reduce the number of transactional emails you send? (Perhaps by sending email digests of community activity instead of individual email notifications of comments, replies, etc.? Or maybe by using SMS notifications instead of email notifications? Or some other method?)
5) Are there other factors I'm not asking about but should be (noob that I am 😆)?

cheapest setup is probably Amazon SES... it's a bit complex to setup but worth it if you are sending 50,000+ of emails each month. lower than this I would recommend SMTP2GO service (there are plenty of others).
You can also use your web-host server based sending (if it's supported) but you have to set it up correctly (like all of these)... this then includes the cost of all transactional emails in your web-host cost.
It's difficult to estimate cost as you don't know how activae your community is going to be and how people will configure their notifications. so you can have 1000's of members but if they are not so activate and have notifications reduced / limited then not many emails are sent... the same number of members that are super active with email notifications on will send a LOT more emails.
Agree with Scott Hopkins that cheapest will be Amazon SES. However there are a couple of other variables. Do you need a mailbox? Is it only transactional or will it be marketing, too.
For my new clients where they want me to handle everything then I set them up with Rackspace email + Elastic Mail because it's just easier for me since it's included with my servers hosting.

Just to chime in, I've found PostMark works great with FluentCRM and wasn't terribly difficult to set up either.
