[resolved] Google Sign On: requesting detailed instructions beyond “use Fluent Auth”
Can someone please help me with step-by-step instructions for properly setting up Google Sign In for my community?
I have searched here and WP Ninja’s docs. But all I can find is the advice to “use FluentAuth.”
Can someone point me to a Youtube video or written instructions on how to set up Google Sign On to my Fluent Community?
I see videos on YT, but I’m unclear how relevant they are since the plugin is being updated rapidly (which is great).
If it matters, my community is paid. Stack is Surecart, Sure Members, Ottokit, and Fluent CRM. I own Fluent Forms and Fluent Cart if that matters and am happy to install Fluent Auth.
I appreciate that Fluent Auth’s Google Sign In docs (https://fluentauth.com/docs/google-auth-connection/) were updated June 2025. But the instructions don’t say what to do inside Fluent Community after you take all the steps in the docs.
- How do I connect it all in terms of sign up and login?
- Which boxes do I check in the screenshot?
- What do I put in the fields?
- Do I need to create and design new registration and login pages?
- Do I need to use Fluent Forms?
- Is there a way that someone can purchase my membership and automatically have a Wordpress user account / Fluent Community account created? Do I need to do this with Ottokit…?
Why don’t we have docs for this? 😢
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi Kaneisha G., once you setup Google Auth then just enable shortcode feature in FluentAuth. After that, you don't have to do anything inside FluentCommunity. The integration is automatic and your community members can signup / signup using google.
Shahjahan Jewel thank you for the quick response. It would be helpful to add a Google Login section to FC’s docs and mention this. I will now work on implementing this. Thank you!
So I don’t need to put the shortcode anywhere? Or I do?
Responding here for the future confused person. Fluent Community's default login page will automatically show the Google Login option once you enable it.
I’ve noticed that Fluent Auth currently sets the user’s email address as their default username. I was wondering if there’s a way to adjust this behavior. Ideally, it would be great if new users—after clicking the “Login with Google” button—could be prompted to choose their own username, or at least have the option to use their Google account username instead. Using an email address as a username might raise some privacy concerns, and in certain contexts, could have security implications as well. I’d really appreciate any guidance or suggestions on how this setting might be customized. Shahjahan Jewel
Pakey Dev eek!! Thank you so much for the warning about that. I definitely can’t have that happen.
I was also thinking it might be helpful to include an option within the 'Edit Profile' page that allows users to unlink their account from Google. This could be important in situations where they’re no longer able to access their Gmail—especially since phone verification issues with Google accounts do happen from time to time. Ultimately, it would be great if users had the flexibility to update their email address and manage the link between their profile and their Google account. This kind of control could really support both usability and peace of mind.
I am adding a comment so that this is saved in my profile screen to see where I have posted. As this is something I would like to come back to at a later time. Perhaps even having a bookmark feature for specific posts...
