FluentCommunity Beta 1.0.62 Released πŸš€

We just released ANOTHER BIG UPDATE of the FluentCommunity Plugin with a few exciting new features and bug fixes.

What's new:

  • Unified Terminology: There were some misunderstandings between Community & Space. We have made it unified with "Space". We have changed all the labels as well as changed the permalink structure.
  • New Layout Options for Spaces: Now you can customize the Space layout with List / Timeline view or disable the right sidebar. This customization option is on a Space basis.
  • Featured & Trending Posts: Now you can pin posts to the Space sidebar. In the homepage feed, Trending Posts will be shown too.
  • New Notification System: Previously, you would get notifications to all the posts. Now only posts by admin/moderator will be pushed into the notifications. In the future, we will make these configurable at the user level.
  • Leaderboard Improvements: Leaderboard configuration is now more easier and simplified.
  • New UI for Chat App: Our team re-wrote the whole chat app. Now it's faster, better UI & UX. We will improve the chat interface in the next update as well.
  • UI Improvements: We have updated a few internal UI and UX.

What's next?

Currently, our team is working on the overall UI & UX. I approved the final design today and hopefully in the next few days, you will get the super clean and neat UI of this plugin.

We are also running some benchmarks against other plugins and you will be amazed to see the result. FluentCommunity will be the fastest plugin in this category!

Thank you again for giving all the feedback and helping us to build this product. An exclusive lifetime deal only for the beta testers will be announced in the coming weeks!

Please leave your feedback in the comment section. @everyone πŸ‘‡

You need to make a webview app work with push notifications, a good solution for this would be fluxbuilder, they have many integrations for WordPress plugins in a native way, I'm sure to integrate notifications into app's push notifications with them would be possible. And they'd be happy to add a social network solution to their portfolio.

Shahjahan Jewel

Rosvaldas Nudas, We are currently discussing with a mobile app development team and hopefully, they will start working on it once we release the first version publicly.

Cointacter

Shahjahan Jewel, which app solution/provider it is if I may ask ?

Shahjahan Jewel

Rosvaldas Nudas, We can't share names yet because we just started. But the team is really good at making phone apps. They've made many apps for big companies over the last 10+ years. Now they want to start making things for WordPress.

Shahjahan Jewel

Rosvaldas Nudas, By the way, I hate web-view because of the performance issues. The team we are discussing with, they are super expert with Flutter which is super performant.

Cointacter

Shahjahan Jewel, fluxbuilder is also flutter and it provides a way to build any app, also you can whitelabel the entire builder. Will it be native or still WebView ?

Shahjahan Jewel

Rosvaldas Nudas, As I said, I hate web-view. So definitely it will be native :)

Cointacter

Shahjahan Jewel, But it will take a long time to develop and costs will be big and maintenance is much more work than WebView. Even twitter has hybrid WebView app, and many more

What I am waiting to see is how we can use this for allowing a community to grow by itself. Like any other community platforms i.e. Facebook or LinkedIn, will 'permitted' users have the ability to create and promote their 'permitted' content?

Karl Emil Nikka

Thanks. As you’re building this amazing project from the ground up, please consider end-to-end encrypting the chat messages from the start. We should not be able to read our users’ chat messages. (If you implement end-to-end encryption, please remember to also have a report function for users to report unwanted messages.)

Diana F

Entirely agree with @ke-nikkafluent. Otherwise, this could turn into a privacy issue and potential GDPR-related complaints.

I'm very excited about that amazing community plugin. Any news with RTL support? Shahjahan Jewel can you share the ETA?

Jose Luis Duron

So, just to be sure, now Communities is called "Groups" and they are "hide" on "Spaces"? Shahjahan Jewel

Nelson Miller

Shahjahan Jewel Still showing weird terminology, it literally says Space, Group, and Community all in one setting 🀣I have no clue what any of these terms mean.

H Media

Nelson Miller, agreed. The naming for spaces, groups, communities, courses being inside a group group or community, is all very confusing.

H Media

Does the course editing page support short codes now?

That is currently the only thing holding me back from being able to use this on a production site.

Shahjahan Jewel

Hac Media, I have no plan to support shortcodes in the course editing. Maybe we will never do it.

H Media

Shahjahan Jewel, I currently have a community with 4,347 members and we use learn dash for the LMS.

We also depend on fluent forms underneath the videos to collect feedback.

If you’re never going to support short codes, could you at least support fluent forms?

That is currently the only thing preventing me from being able to migrate to fluent community.

If fluent forms will never be supported in the course builder please let me know because I have to stop investing resources into considering this as a possible solution.

Thank you.

Shahjahan Jewel

Hac Media, We may support Fluent Forms in the future. But let me explain why we don't support shortcode in general:

We want to make the whole plugin as a Single Page Application so the user will only load the page for the first time and then the entire experience will be just like instant, like a desktop app. This is one of the primary goals. If we want to support shortcodes then we have to render and make a hard reload of that page (like other platforms) which will break the overall super-fast experience.

We may able to support Fluent Forms as it's our own plugin and we know it's API and we can create a work-around and render the forms while keeping the same experience. This may take a while.

H Media

Shahjahan Jewel, understood.

Hopefully you can support Fluent Form sooner rather than later as it’s essential for us and at least one other person here.

It could also be a good way to promote the use of FluentForms natively from within the community product.

In the mean time can you suggest a viable work-around?

Could there be a native option to create a pop up?

This popup could then render a fluent form or any other element?

This might be the easiest solution if possible. It’s not ideal because it ads an additional step for and our users but it would allow us to use the community platform.

Since the terminology was unified maybe it is a good time to also change the /portal slug to /community so it make more sense in the link structure but also highlight the name: Community.

Current url structure: domain.com/portal/space/fluent-boards/home

Desired url structure domain.com/community/space/fluent-boards/home

In case of this community instance here, maybe it wouldnt be a perfect example since it is accessible on the subdomain but for other cases maybe it is worth it to change it - so finally we can get rid of word: Portal complety etc.

We can change the slug manually but for a new testers and customers it might be handy and out of the box solution.

PS. if there would be a build-in option to select: instalation on a subdomain then the word /community could be removed as the subdomain would be called: community.domain.com

In the naked subdomain/APEX installation the url structure would be:

community.domain.com/space/fluent-boards/home

PS2. The new url structure is awesome. I would just improve it for courses so we don't see any "View" word or ID number for the specific Course (it is always nice, not only for SEO) to see the course name - where spaces between words are replaced with ("-") etc.).

PS3. For a new testers here and their convenience it would be nice if you could link your posts to previous version release announcements here so it is easy to read all those changes for a new testers (until we have the public change log).

Example: previous release: v.1.0.60

Guy Levy

Good stuff - please try to enable using Presto player - it is the last thing that will make me go all in on the plugin...

Jose Luis Duron

Guy Levy, I second this request βœ…

Sifiso Madwayi

Guy Levy, i also second this request βœ…

Editing menus is still totally broken.

Attempting to move a menu item up or down always results in the helpful message "Error : Something is wrong!"

Attempting to edit a menu item and saving it results in the same message.

Attempting to add a new menu item results in the same message.

This is true for Primary Menu Items, Profile Dropdown Items, Top Links (At Sidebar), and Sidebar Bottom Link Groups in /portal/admin/settings/menu-settings using Fluent Community v1.0.62

Shahjahan Jewel

Keith Blakemore-Noble, Check out the console log -> Network activity. Most probably your firewall plugin is blocking the request.

Shahjahan Jewel thanks, that enabled me to find the issue - turns out it's using some XSS which Wordfence was blocking, so I have managed to allow that one case through, seems to be working nicely now. Cheers!
