FluentCommunity and Shared Hosting

Is anyone using a shared hosting for their community? How's performance? What shared hosting provider do you recommend for a small community?

David Fore

Shared hosting is no good for a dynamic community site. Check out xCloud's Managed VPS options.

David ForeΒ What plan do you use?

David Fore

MarekΒ I'm currently using their "Elite" plan running 5 low volume Community sites all with FluentCommunity.

Marek

David ForeΒ I think that's overkill. I've been running two small communities on Managed VPS (2 CPU 4 GB RAM) and it uses only 30% of resources. I got it for $15/month for the first year as black friday deal. The price will increase after that and I'm thinking about moving to shared hosting because I don't even think I need that many resources at this moment.

I've had a good experience running FluentCommunity on quality shared hosting. For a small community, a good shared hosting plan is usually more than enough and performs smoothly.

That said, it really depends on the number of active users and overall traffic. I ran my community on shared hosting for quite a long time without any major issues. Once the community grew to around 5,000 users, I moved to a VPS to have more dedicated resources and room to scale.

So, if you're just starting out, I'd recommend investing in a reputable shared hosting provider first and upgrading to a VPS only when your community actually outgrows it.

Marek

Arif HossainΒ What shared hosting provider did you use and how much did you pay?

WiLson Eberechi

I'm using shared hosting with 100+ members + lots of add-ons and snippet, I'll move to VPS when I have more members.

And my fluent community is my main domain: https://mpaddi.com

Marek

WiLson EberechiΒ What shared hosting provider and plan do you use?

WiLson Eberechi

MarekΒ I'm using "Hosting", that's the hosting provider, for the plan I think it's the minimum or something.

Marek

WiLson EberechiΒ Starter plan for $2.99/month? I'm amazed how well your community runs if you only pay this much.

WiLson Eberechi

MarekΒ I'm actually talking about "Hosting" not "Hostinger", though my staging/tester site is using "Hostinger" but my main site mpaddi is using "Hosting"

Hostinger cloud startup is a great choice !

Marek

Nicolas D Do you use it, and how many wordpress sites do you run on it?

Nicolas D

MarekΒ yes you can run +100 simple WP sites on this hosting without any prob (litespeed servers + litespeed cache plugin)

I'm also on this plan and haven't had any problems so far with a small community and a website for my web radio (which is more resource-intensive). The multi-year offer is attractive.
