Feature request: H5P + a "course map" view, a visual edge that sells FluentCommunity on sight
Hi FluentCommunity team,
I run a French personal-development community on FluentCommunity, and lately I've been building gamified courses with H5P. Watching how my members react has honestly been one of the most exciting parts of my week. It made me think this could become a real competitive advantage for FluentCommunity, both for creators like me and for your own sales. So I wanted to share the idea with you.
Why I think it's worth it
For course creators:
- Better lessons, better retention. Interactive maps, quizzes and scenarios turn passive lessons into experiences people actually want to come back to. More completions mean happier students, and happier students renew, upgrade and recommend you.
- A premium product that justifies premium pricing. Most online courses are still "video + text". Creators on FluentCommunity could offer something visibly better, and price it that way.
For FluentCommunity:
- A clear edge over other LMS and community platforms. Leaderboards and badges are everywhere now. A learning journey you can see is not.
- A feature that sells itself. This isn't one more line in a feature list. One screenshot of a course shown as a map makes the value obvious to a prospect in seconds. That's the kind of visual that makes a sales page, a demo video or a social post convert.
- More creators choosing FluentCommunity means more licenses, and more showcase communities doing your marketing for you.
1. Native H5P support in lessons (quick win)
Right now, H5P shortcodes ([h5p id="1"]) don't render in lessons. I got it working by pasting an iframe into a Custom HTML block and adding a bit of custom CSS, but it's a workaround most creators won't find.

I saw that Ryk and Michael are already working on an H5P integration, which is great news. Whether it ends up in core or as an add-on, two things would make it perfect:
- H5P shortcodes rendering in lessons, or a dedicated H5P block.
- The lesson auto-completing when the H5P activity is finished. H5P already fires a standard xAPI
completedevent.
This alone would open the whole H5P library to every FluentCommunity creator: interactive videos, quizzes, branching scenarios, 360Β° virtual tours and game maps. Progress and scores are already stored by the H5P plugin itself.
2. An optional "course map" view (the showcase feature)
H5P's Game Map places stages on any background image, connects them with paths and unlocks them as the learner progresses. Think Super Mario World, but for learning.
Each stage on the map is clickable and opens a pop-up with the actual learning content. It can hold almost anything H5P offers:
- Watch: interactive videos that pause for questions, slide presentations, images, audio.
- Answer: quizzes in many formats, such as multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blanks, drag and drop, drag the words, mark the words, or full question sets.
- Explore: image hotspots, accordions, dialog cards and flashcards.
- Play: memory games, crosswords and other small challenges.
Creators can also add stars, lives, time limits and bonus stages. Learners don't just follow a path, they explore a world where every stop teaches something.

If you want to see it in action:
- Game Map: https://h5p.org/content-types/game-map
- 360Β° Virtual Tour: https://h5p.org/tutorial-virtual-tour
The idea: an optional course layout where the creator uploads a background image and drags existing lessons onto it as stages. FluentCommunity already handles sequential unlocking and completion, so I imagine it would mostly be a visual layer plus a simple placement editor.

Picture that mockup as the hero image of the FluentCommunity LMS page. That's the pitch.
And it's about much more than gamification
The quest side is fun, but I think the bigger win is how people learn. We remember places far better than lists. That's the old "memory palace" technique, and it's why a good diagram often teaches more than three pages of text. A map lets creators show how the pieces of a subject fit together, not just the order to watch them in:
- A "build your first website" course could be drawn as a house under construction. Hosting is the foundation, WordPress is the structure, each page is a room, and payments are the front door. Students always know where they are and why each step matters.
- A language course could be a small town: order at the cafΓ©, bargain at the market, ask for directions at the train station. Each lesson lives in a place you can picture, and that's exactly what makes vocabulary stick.
The same goes for any subject with a structure: a body for an anatomy course, a kitchen for a cooking school, a timeline for a history class. The lesson list tells students what comes next. A map shows them how it all connects, and that's what they remember.
In short: option 1 is a quick win that makes FluentCommunity the best home for H5P content. Option 2 is a signature feature no competitor offers, one that makes courses easier to understand and easier to sell.
Would anyone else here use this? I'd love to hear how you'd use it, and please upvote if you like the idea!
And a big thank you for 2.11. The lesson video fix landed right when I was fighting with it, perfect timing.
This will be game-changing.
yes πͺπͺ
this is interesting - thanks
Yes, please. I have 100s of H5P content. It could be a great addition for educators and FC.
