FC uses confusing names

Fluent Community is unnecessarily difficult to set up, in part because of the poor choice of names used.

  1. Groups need to be renamed to Sections. A group refers to multiple people with something in common. A section refers to a place where related items are organized. Fluent Community erroneously calls the bold titles in the left sidebar groups when they should be named sections.
  2. Spaces should be renamed Channels. A space is a physical location, whereas a channel is a place for communication of a certain topic. Yes it could be called either but far more people will understand channel, both from radio usage and from Discord, the latter of which is orders of magnitude more popular than Circle, which I'm told is the inspiration for the naming conventions used by FC.
  3. Space Groups is pure confusion πŸ‘½πŸš€πŸͺYou can't simply combine two words and hope it all works out. Section Channels would be equally confusing.

I placed them as circles, referring to study circles, it is possible, of course, you can configure it easily, now as for what is established in different parts of the community, you can change it with Loco translate.

EricK BuenoΒ Loco Translate is a good option for those using it. For others it is an additional plugin. For those new to Fluent Community, the confusing names would continue to present problems.

For the left bar, you can configure it in the FC options

To solve the problems it would be nice to add an option to customize the name to the administrator's liking.

But this part is a bit difficult for the developer because they would also have to globally update the name in the other integrations like FluentCRM that uses these same names to refer to the spaces and groups.

Sombri LunaΒ It's never too late to improve names that are confusing.

I agree it's very confusing. In English and in any other language πŸ˜
