Enabling email notifications for new users
Seems like an obvious thing (there even was a post about this previously) but email notifications for new posts should be on for users by default with the option to turn them off, not the other way around. Otherwise how are people supposed to be notified of announcements and new posts? Just by the weekly digest or if they log in? Seems like a great way for people to miss important things... Is there a way to turn this on programmatically via somehow via the API to adjust someone's default settings? Shahjahan JewelΒ
Claudy ScoufyΒ Thanks. I wound up making a snippet myself that enables them when they join the space.
Claudy ScoufyΒ Thanks for the snippet. I just installed it in FluentSnippets and it's working great. This is going to be good to keep the slacker members notified when something is happening in the Community. π
David ForeΒ lol slackers
BobΒ I think we all have them. The one's that create an account, then disappear. Or they just login and look around, no posting, commenting, reacting, nothing; then leave. π
David ForeΒ Tell me about it. Creating a reason for someone to go out of their way to interact in your community ain't all it's cracked up to be. We were on Circle for a while but it was crickets and we were paying $240 a month so I wanted to switch to something more cost effective, plus I like the idea of it being on Wordpress which I can pretty much do anything with if need be. It's an opportunity though to create more interaction. I've built a few ways to automate scheduling of posts so that I can try to post more.
BobΒ Nice. We were on Mighty Networks for a while a few years ago, and like you said, that was expensive for roughly $250/month. So, I moved my Community from there to Discord, which nobody liked, and I really didn't like it too much myself even being the creator/admin of it. I then found a PHP Social Media site that I could run on a small server called, "Social Media Network", but I had no idea what I was getting into, since I didn't (and still don't) know a thing about PHP and coding. We then went the route of BuddyPress and a whole bunch of other plugins to make it work like we wanted, and then I stumbled upon FluentCommunity and used it for about 7 months and it just didn't have the feature set we were looking for in a "Social Community", so we then found PeepSo and while it gave us almost everything we were looking for, after working with it for a good 8 months now, I've come to find out that it is a pretty heavy plugin set and really server resource heavy system to run. Not as heavy and resource intensive as I've heard BuddyBoss is, but then there were some issues with the PeepSo Cron Jobs and the Google ReCaptcha crap, and a whole bunch of backend server issues with everything and it just became a nightmare of a headache.
I've got a Ministry to run and oversee, not time to spend daily trying to learn coding and database management and such to keep a Community website going.
Then I started looking back at FluentCommunity again, and this is where we have landed and where we plan to stay, because it just works like it should. I'm not saying it's perfect, cause I haven't found a system yet that is, but it is much lighter on the VPS and faster, and mobile responsive looking and feeling like an app right out of the box, when it's not yet, and with the way FC just integrates so well with all of the other WPMN "Fluent" plugins; it's a hands-down, no-questions, I'm sticking with it.
If it doesn't do something I want or need it to do, it's usually just around the corner in an upcoming update, or there are other developers building niche plugins specifically for FC.
So, can you share how you are scheduling posts inside your FC? This is something I've been thinking about doing in the future, but not sure how to go about executing it correctly.
I do also use the FluentCRM Pro, FluentForms Pro, FluentBoards, FluentAuth, FluentSMTP, FluentSnippets, and I'm really looking forward to the release of the FluentPlayer Pro soon.
David ForeΒ Sounds like you've been on quite a journey sir! lol. I've had a similar one as well, from Buddyboss to Circle to other bespoke systems. FC so far has been very good. Just need to get the community members to dig in more hehe.
