Congrats me!

I hope this post sparks ideas and gives you the nudge to build a community of your own. :)

Iโ€™ve been running our data-analytics course community (sorry it's Korean site) with Fluent Community + WooCommerce for a year now, and weโ€™re proud to be at ~700 active members. Purchases auto-assign roles and unlock course groups, so onboarding is smooth(thanks to FluentCRM & Form); weekly recap threads and Q&A keep engagement high; and our โ€œpost with runnable code/dataโ€ norm has leveled up discussion quality. Itโ€™s been the perfect stack for turning classes into an always-on learning hub.

Congrats me!

Congratulations ๐ŸŽŠ how many posts do you have?

SAK LEE

David Scurlockย thank you! I don't know the exact number but many people ask and answer in my community! :)

SAK LEEย Congratulation! You can use the free plugin "Fluent Community Shortcodes" created by Ross FCAย to display stats like number of members, posts, comments, etc.

Congratulations SAK LEEย , sounds like a great experience and result ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

Do you think you'll migrate to Fluent Cart when the migration tool is available?

SAK LEE

Jesse Benjaminย Thank you Jesses, I am not sure I will migrate to FC since the current site works well, but if I make another community in the future, yeah, i'll give it a try! :)

Congrats, I like the little drop down menu :)

Shahjahan Jewelย could we have a place here just for showcasing what people do with Fluent Products? (any of them).
That would be great for inspiration and maybe help each other (which stack used, etc)

Kaneisha G.

Patricia BTย agreed!

SAK LEE

Patricia BTย Thank you, Patricia, and I agree with your idea, so that I can also inpired by other peoples' work! :)

SAK LEEย awesome! I love it. I have some questions:

  1. Do you monetize through courses (snd the community is free) or is it a paid membership subscription?
  2. How much do you charge? Right now, I charge $33/mo and the courses are included. Just opened and got my first 3 members. My site: https://app.theartofapplying.com/forum
  3. What are your biggest sources of customers/paid members?
  4. Any other advice?

Kaneisha G.ย  Just saw your message! Hereโ€™s how I structure my setup:

I offer watercolor courses and tutorials. I have one free course and several free tutorials. Free members donโ€™t get full access to the community.

I also offer several paid stand-alone courses and a membership. When someone purchases a single course, they get limited community access.

Members, on the other hand โ€” whether monthly, yearly, or lifetime (LTD) โ€” get full access to the community.

Here are some of the extras included in the membership:

  • Access to the Roadmap, so they can help decide which new courses Iโ€™ll create next
  • Monthly challenges where they can win fun real-life prizes (paint, brushes, one of my paintings, etc.)
  • A monthly live get-together via Google Meet
  • Option to become an Affiliate of my community.
  • Access to all my courses
  • A locked-in price โ€” even if I raise prices later, their rate stays the same as long as they remain a member
  • Prices are adjusted about twice a year for new members
  • My earliest members still pay โ‚ฌ10 a month, some pay โ‚ฌ17.50 โ€” which is really low considering the amount of content they get. The price will increase gradually over time.

Feel free to DM me if youโ€™d like to know more!

Kaneisha G.ย Hi, Kaneisha! Here is my quick answers:

  1. Yes, free community and paid course! I guess that's a proven method to monetization, also good for SEO. :)
  2. I have many free course and $30 ish courses, and 2 high tickets; around $800.
  3. YouTube! I am running YT channel about data science and statistics, people coming from the YT to my community. Also, recently I published my first offline book, not ebook.
  4. I think, if you want to run your community private then you have to have a place to showoff your contents to your customers; such as Instagram or YouTube. :)

Kaneisha G.

Gee Adriaanszย love your membership! Thank you for the details!

Kaneisha G.

SAK LEEย this is all very helpful! I have a Youtube channel, and that is how I get the vast majority of my companyโ€™s coaching clients for our high ticket offer.

As for getting people into my membership, you make a great point that I need to show off what they get!

I might make my community free for the SEO (grad school applicants love a forum), and limit access to sample essays to paid members. Iโ€™ll need to think on it.

Another option is to offer a free or low cost trial.

I have a business coach who specializes in memberships, so Iโ€™ll ask her too.
