I’ve been spending time exploring different community platforms lately, including Circle, and I just want to say this clearly…
Fluent Community is seriously on another level.
From the UI to the flexibility and overall experience, it’s obvious a lot of thought has gone into building this. And the fact that it comes at such an accessible price makes it even more impressive.
👏 Huge respect to the team behind this. You’re building something special.

Bryan William that’s hardly all of them ;) what about Peepso, buddypress, mighty networks, turf, scenes ? (The last two aren’t well known). I agree with you, fluent community is great! I am happy I found it. But to say it’s the best in the world is a stretch. Communities aren’t comparable. This one is on its early development stage but cheap. Others are far more advanced but much more expensive.
I love fluentcommunity though and you’re right to give the team a shoutout.
@exnilingoIt will depend on each of us, on our individual preferences. Personally, I managed a forum for 25 years, and it was after discovering FluentCommunity that I decided to close it and start again with this model. Not (or no longer) offering these different formatting options frees me from certain moderation tasks, such as reminding people about text written in very small or very large font, colors that are too light on a light background, and many other things... I'm getting used to the method used, but as I said, it will depend on everyone's needs.🙂
Claudy Scoufy that was quite a convincing argument to be honest. Though what I would want the most is still basic (I don't necessarily need colours and highlights for example)
The price is certainly great compared to all the other platforms and what I like the most is that it’s so lightweight and free from loud features that you see elsewhere. I like the forum the most (I hate other communities’ forums with hashtags and threads. Just unpleasant to use).
What is great is that they release a major update seemingly once every one or two months. What isn’t is that we don’t know what they are working on (but I keep complaining about this aspect) and that we don’t know if they actually take into account our suggestions (they selectively answer to feature requests).
It’s still the beginning of the product (launched on November 2024) so the future is promising. But it’s a bit frustrating to be at the receiving hand of a product that’s still in the active phase of the making

Bryan William they have a roadmap they have abandoned last year in July. (Last update).
Good for you if you love surprises, but I have a specific vision for my community, and I’ll have to ask developers to tailor make features for me. I don’t want to foot the bill for features that may or may not end up as a future release in the next versions of fcom.
Right now I feel stuck in the development of my community because too many aspects I want are missing. I just want to know at least if they will finally give posts a a formatting box or whatever it’s called (bold, italic, highlighter etc). You know, the basic stuff the whole internet has had for nearly two decades
Anne-Sophie W This already exists, but you need to know the "trick": Write your message, highlight the passage you want to add bold, italics, etc. You also have other options using a / (slash) for titles, bullet points, etc... 😊

Wilco Wietsma yes and that doesn’t offer everything there should be, like underlining, highlighting, changing colors perhaps. It’s just very elementary level and we shouldn’t have to use any trick…
Anne-Sophie W, FC uses markdown and markdown does not natively support underlining.
Highlighting texts or using the / command, works pretty fine for me, very user friendly, I would say. The available options are almost enough in my opinion. About changing text colors and text highlighting, if these are added, it will be awesome.
Ahmed I just don’t understand why I am sent back to 2003 where forums didn’t have any formatting box. Fluent Support has it, so I don’t see why we shouldn’t have it here. But I’m getting frustrated by the product being at such early stage of development to be honest and having no insight into what’s coming next. The / command does very little (lists, titles, code, quoting? Almost useless!) but I seem to be the only one here thinking that way…
This is the only option for now...

The editor uses milkdown.dev which has a lot of options, but most are disabled by default - I suspect this is because it could easily look messy and cause confusion. If there's specific features you would like or need, add them to the Roadmap 👍
