What are your best practices for handling media-heavy WordPress websites?

I've been working on improving the way media-heavy web projects are handled, particularly around performance, storage, caching, and delivering media efficiently to users.

One of my own projects is fdown.media, a small web utility focused on Facebook media downloading. Working on it has made me more interested in the broader challenges of serving media efficiently, especially when users access a site from mobile devices or when traffic increases.

For those working with WordPress and WPManageNinja products, I'm curious about your experience:

  • How do you usually optimize media-heavy WordPress sites?
  • Do you rely mainly on caching/CDNs, or are there other optimizations that make a noticeable difference?
  • How do you handle large media files without affecting the rest of the site's performance?
  • Are there particular WPManageNinja tools or WordPress configurations you've found useful for this type of workload?

I'd be interested in hearing what approaches have worked well in real-world projects.

I don't claim to be an expert on this, but for fear of causing my site to be weighed down, as it is media heavy, I opted has been not to store things on my site's server at all. I load everything into a cdn and call it from there. There's also a feature in FluentComm that allows you to upload your community media to a cdn as well. There are lots of folks here who are more knowledgeable than me about this but those would be good places to start I'd say! https://fluentcommunity.co/docs-category/integration/
