FluentPlayer Early Beta Feedback: Interactive Layers, Ads, Presets & More

Hey team and mates! πŸ‘‹

Been testing FluentPlayer on a staging site and wanted to share detailed feedback.

Overall impression: this is shaping up to be an incredible product. Fast, clean, and packed with features that solve real problems.

Here's my breakdown:

WHAT I LOVE

Interactive Layers
The ability to place a Fluent Form directly on the video (before playback or at any timestamp) is genuinely game-changing. This alone sets FluentPlayer apart from everything else in the WordPress space.

Hotspots
Interactive clickable elements on screen: basically YouTube's clickable cards but on YOUR platform and to your desired URLs. Love this.

Ads: being able to upload your own ads here. Good alternative to VAST and an opportunity for partners and patreons.

Time Content Areas
This literally replaces plugins like deadline funnels or conditional displays for many use cases. Being able to show any content at a specific timestamp (e.g., show a FluentBooking calendar at minute 30) is powerful. More on this below.

Reports
Clean, useful metrics with auto-cleanup options. And thank you for not reporting watch time in raw seconds like other platforms do πŸ˜„ Actually usable data.

Let me be clear here: this data is completely accesible. In this new AI era this is pure gold, packed with a label thanks to the ninjas. Note: be aware of privacy policies and GDPR, and EU AI Act coming enforcements.

Speed
As expected from the Fluent ecosystem: everything loads fast. No bloat.

SUGGESTIONS & FEATURE REQUESTS

1. Ads at Preset Level (High Priority)
Currently, presets support Email Capture, Call to Action, and Action Bar. If you add Ad support at the preset level, this becomes a massive game-changer.

Use case: Create a preset for all your course videos. During a sales season, drop an ad into that preset β†’ every student sees it globally across all videos. No need to edit individual videos.

This could even replace VAST integrations (like Bunny's Google Ads). Imagine running your own ad system for platform sponsors: no middleman, full control.

2. Ad Progress Bar
When an ad plays, there's no loading/progress bar showing how much time is left. This is essential UX: every major platform (YouTube, Spotify) shows remaining ad time. Users need to know when the content resumes.

3. Overlay Text: Dynamic Positioning
Currently overlay text is fixed in one screen position. Many of us use this as an anti-piracy measure: placing a smart code with the student's email/name/ID on the video so we can trace leaks.

The problem: if the overlay stays fixed, it can be cropped out. Other solutions allow the overlay to move dynamically across the screen during playback. This would make the anti-piracy feature actually effective.

4. CTA: "Show at End of Video" Option
The timestamp-based CTA placement works great. But the most common use case is: video teaser ends β†’ purchase button appears. Right now you have to manually check the video duration and set the timestamp.

A simple "Show at end of video" toggle would save everyone time and avoid errors.

5. Time Content Areas: Native Integrations
The feature is brilliant. Suggestion: add native support for embedding FluentBooking calendars and Fluent Forms directly (not just via shortcode). If shortcodes already work here, maybe just document it more prominently: I wasn't sure if they were supported.

❓ QUESTIONS FOR THE TEAM

YouTube Auto-Dubbing / Partner Features
YouTube is now auto-dubbing partner videos into other languages. Does FluentPlayer respect these multi-language audio tracks when embedding YouTube videos? I've seen what looks like language switching based on VPN location in some tests, but I'd love official confirmation.

Subtitles
Karl Emil NikkaΒ  asked about YouTube subtitle support. Native YouTube subtitles don't appear in the player. I also tried uploading .vtt subtitle files for other videos and got errors. Might be a beta limitation: just flagging it.

PS.: Also, it will be a good enhancement to have videos auto subtitled on bunny or any other tool. And that integrated with the player. Bunny has a direct add captions to everything option. So if we can avoid direct captions uploads... that will make this scalable for large course catalogues.

CONCLUSION

FluentPlayer is a top-tier solution! Congrats to the team.

The differences and enhancements since I got a sneaky peek into the alpha are notorious!

The interactive layers, time-based content, and hotspots put it ahead of anything else in the WordPress video space. And it's FAST: as expected from everything the Fluent team builds and as expected of any professional ninja :)

If Ads get preset-level support and overlay text gets dynamic positioning, this becomes genuinely unbeatable for course creators and membership platforms.

Not sure if there will be a straighforward integration for those of use using native bunny.net embeds or alike. But if that is the case, the switch to fluent player will be a no-brainer!

Congrats to the entire team. Can't wait for the full release. πŸš€

I can confirm that I had the same issue with YouTube subtitles. After upgrading to beta 1.0.1, I can no longer upload captions to YouTube clips at all. Presto Player and other Plyr based players have the same issue.

Andre Gois

Can you use the hotspots and cta on the community?

Andre GoisΒ I do not see why not. Fluentplayer will be fully integrated with fluent community. So, any videos you use there should be able to use this feature in the videos :)

Andre Gois

Jorge de los ReyesΒ i am asking because right now i can not see that option

Andre GoisΒ do you have the beta for core and pro? This is only on pro.

Andre Gois

Jorge de los ReyesΒ ahhh ok. I just have the free integration That they Gave us with the last fluentcommunity realese

Lukman Nakib

Did you checked out the Playlist feature?

Lukman NakibΒ only on the video demo. But I’ll check it out! Looks quite promising. Specially for product launch like PLF. would be awesome to be able to release videos depending on a schedule or FCRM tags πŸ˜„: probably we can already do this using the Gutenberg conditional display FCRM feature. But just an idea!

Lukman NakibΒ Just tried the playlist feature.

It's simply, amazing!

Works like a charm.

As I said, I can see many applications here.

Specially, being able to add different videos on schedule (for online launches this will be super handy. Specially if every video inherits the CTAs of the fluentplayer settings).

Also, if we can make some conditionals.

And of course, I can see this as a really interesting option for a shortcode that could be used in fluentcommunity as a course teaser video. Using this I can think of showing the free lessons on the playlist, an end of video CTA to the fluentcart checkout, and alike features.

Just like Lynda used to do before being acquired by LinkedIn and converted into Linkedin learn :)

I would also like to play the plugin.
