Appointment booking vs Event booking?
Hi, I'm looking for some clarification on the purpose of the plugin. I do see that the term 'event' is used, but I don't find a lot of information about it.
From my point of view, an appointment booking system has a main use case in that an interested person or party can check the availability of a service and book a time slot to consume the service. The calendar for a service is one of the central objects to start with.
With an event, though, finding an available time slot to book a service, is not the main use case, as the event has a fixed date, time and location. The booker doesn't need to see a calendar with time slots, he wants to see all the information about the event itself. So the calendar is not the central object to see, but the event page itself with all the details on target audience, main benefits, topics, speakers, etc. It doesn't need to be connected to an availability calendar as it is planned separately from an appointment booking service.
At least that is how I see the difference. How should I position FluentBooking from this perspective? Is it supposed to support both appointment and event booking systems, or is it mainly focused on appointment and it has a very light support for event booking?
Would love to hear your thoughts
I see FluentBooking as an appointment tool. For an event, I gather it's for multiple people to register to participate in an event like a webinar, concert, etc. I'd like an Event calendar and reservation tool for FluentCommunity. I know of one 3rd party tool and I thought that I read this is on the roadmap. Not sure if it would be a stand-alone plugin or only a feature for FluentCommunity.
I am thinking the team can create a smaller event plugin not requiring a full team that could then be integrated into Fluent Booking and Fluent Community. Making a nice extension for both of these. It would also be nice if a kind of Fluent Events plugin could be a stand alone plugin.
Example using a CPT and a way to use the Query Loop in Gutenberg (or custom event block that works similar and is a more advanced Query Loop block) to show events by their date. To show upcoming events and when an event has passed have it automatically shift to using a past event category. Going from "Event" to "Past Event" categories. I am thinking other page builders might have something built in that could show events as well. Making a kind of bare bones version to where it uses built in features in various page builders.
Thanks for your thoughts William BeemΒ and Paal Joachim RomdahlΒ . It confirms my believe that it is more an appointment booking plugin than an event plugin at the moment. Iβll look for another solution then
Yes, I think as it stands the plugin is for bookings. I don't think you can create an events page with it and style it exactly how you want. I really hope the team do something to help us with this in the near future.
Mohi AhmedΒ we need to make a request but it will be nice to have as a calender for event
