Question regarding Smart links.
I'm new to using smart links in emails and recently sent one that included a smart link. That link applied a tag that triggered an automation that registered people for a Zoom webinar. We sent the email to about 3,000 contacts, and over 470 people registered, which is significantly higher than our usual registration numbers. Typically, when we ask people to fill out a form, we get around 100 to 150 registrations, with about 50% of those attending. For this webinar, around 60 people showed up.
I'm starting to think that link scanning bots on email servers may have clicked those links, inadvertently registering people. Does that sound like a logical assumption?
If so, I'll need to rethink my approach going forward.
Perhaps you could send the smart link to a page that requires the user to click 1 more button to confirm their registration to test if you still get a similar registration number compared to the smart link automation?
I have a few assumptions.
1) Did you get more registrations because the form created too much friction?
2) If you are legitimately getting more registrations but the attendance remains flat, can you layer another email sequence for those who registered to keep them interested and remind them to join the webinar to increase webinar attendance?
Yes, most of those were confirmed as false registrations from click bots. The confirmation process you mentioned is what we've implemented as a temporary fix.
I created a 2x2px tracking pixel linked to a smartlink for tracking purposes, which could improve automation later, but it's not a priority right now. The registration confirmation process is working fine for the moment.
Regarding streamlining, since FluentCRM already holds the necessary information for email recipients, it's an easy way to simplify registration.
For reminders, we use Zoom for webinars, which automatically sends reminders 1 week, 1 day, and 1 hour before the event. Historically, we've had a 50% attendance rate, with an additional 15-20% watching the session recordings. This aligns with our audience's typical schedules, as they are mostly mid-to-high-level corporate professionals.\
Mike RΒ Thanks for sharing. It does mean I would also be simplifying my registration process but not have an 1-click solution.
