Question about Email Sequences and automations to the community

I set up a simple automation with

  1. an email nurturing sequence (14 day seq),
  2. added a tag after to move any subscribers not taking action within the sequence to a "wait list",
  3. then ended the automation.

When subscibers enter the sequence they go straight through to the tag and ending the automation, while still being in the sequence.

I fixed it by adding a goal instead when noticing this "Email Sequence Complete".

Is the goal necessary to mark a subscriber as having completed the Sequence or is that handle anyways?

However, is this a Bug or a brilliant design I have not yet wrapped my head around (which is an experience I've had a few times during my Fluent Learning Journey).

What do you mean by "When subscibers enter the sequence they go straight through to the tag and ending the automation, while still being in the sequence."? Do you mean that none of the emails that precede adding the tag action are skipped and that the contact immediately jumps to the add tag action?

Also, when you state "email sequence", do you mean that it is a sequence of emails contained within the automation, or you are adding the contact to a Campaign type of Email Sequence?

Norm SashΒ Β Thank you for clarifying Norm Sash

  1. Yes, Email Sequences
  2. Yes, the subcribers are added to the "Email Sequence" which seem to work properly but
  3. are progressed to the Tag and then to Ending the Funnel, even if the Email Sequence is not finished.

Hopefully my communication is more on point with this. Let me know if not :)

Ok, then that is the expected behavior. The action step of Add to email sequence simply adds the contact to the email sequence. There is no check to see that the email sequence is completed. Thus, since the contact is successfully added to the email sequence the action is completed and it moves to the next step in the automation, which in your case was to add a tag. You have to add the goal Email Sequence Complete in order to pause the automation and wait for the contact to complete the email sequence.

Personally, I just avoid email sequences as you really don't have much control over them. I find it much easier and more flexible to put all the emails in an automation and then the control of the flow is much more flexible and visible.

Norm SashΒ yeah, I realised that after building the first in a bit of a rush.
I thought it was an excellent way to re-use Sequences with small changes in different funnels.

I figured out the "Complete Sequence" so we'll se how it goes...

Basically it is an awesome feature, most likely needing some tweaks but as the WP team seems to be overloaded many of the innovative solutions stays hanging a bit unripe in mid air waiting for the summer...

We build, fail, learn, iterate and hopefully we are just that One Funnel Away πŸ˜€

Norm SashΒ Jacob MarinkoΒ The problem with using emails within automations is that I don't have the open and click rate.

Jacob Marinko

Eduardo SachsΒ yes, the reporting function in FCRM has a lot to ask for.

EDIT: After writing this I just realised you might have meant: You also use Sequence and Not Indivdual Email in automations due to they lack data and stats....?

I am testing using the email sequences in a funnel at the moment and in ”email sequences” you do get

Sent

Opened

Clicked

Unsubscribed

You can click on Sent and see actions from specific subscriber and if viewing the specific email there arw open and click stats there.

This is of course not feasible in the long run with large amounts of subscribers but the data can be found. Hope Shahjahan JewelΒ can work on collecting the data into an improved reporting for aggregated data….

I am also testing to use smart links, which track data on aggregated level and found in Settings -> Smart Links > Click the Smart link

since on individual crm profiles all clicks on links are tracked in the profile - with this we can see what smart links they clicked and take action.

The sequence we are running now is 14 day sequence where we want them to receive all emails even if they take action to signup or convert.

Next step is to set up automations to tale them out of the sequence on action and place them in another if that is the next step.

Anyhow, I actually really like the sequence approach especially as you can add new email to a sequence and it will send to subscribers if you did not end it with a Goal.

I’ll post some pictures below

To clarify, we automate our front end, lead gen to low ticket and work partly with manual sales in the high ticket back end and thus have a manual sales process where it makes sense to view and work with specific CRM Profiles like this.

Stats from the Email Sequence

Eduardo Sachs

Jacob MarinkoΒ Well, I did a lot of debugging on the FluentCRM database, and I managed to collect a lot of data. I'm going to create a Python script to collect the data and give me a daily report of what I need (sent, opened, clicked) from all the emails organized in an easy-to-understand way.

Jacob Marinko

Eduardo SachsΒ Oooh, can we chat about that? I am super excited. So let’s say I have my own open ai api where I train assistants etc and connect that to all other fluent like support, ai engine ( though not functional yet) etc then I can feed things there + send to looker studio etc
