Allow Duplicate Company Names or Make Company Name Uniqueness Optional
Hello Shahjahan Jewel,
I have already submitted this as a support ticket, but I also wanted to post it here as a feature request because I believe this may affect other FluentCRM users with similar use cases.
I am currently working on a project where FluentCRM Companies are being used to represent schools. The setup integrates FluentCRM with WooCommerce Memberships and Teams for WooCommerce Memberships, and school/member data is synced automatically into FluentCRM Contacts and Companies.
The issue we encountered is that FluentCRM appears to prevent updating a Company record if another Company already exists with the same name. When clicking Update Info, the following error appears:
Company name already exists. Please use a different company name.
I understand why this validation may have been added, but in some use cases, Company names are not globally unique.
For example, schools in different locations may legitimately have the same name, such as:
St. Joseph Elementary School
There may be multiple schools with that exact name in different states, regions, or countries.
In our case, the Company name is not the true unique identifier. The actual identity of each school is determined through stronger identifiers such as WooCommerce Team ID, FluentCRM Company ID, owner information, state/region, and country/region.
This could also apply to other use cases, such as branches, franchises, campuses, districts, partner organizations, or companies operating across multiple regions.
Would it be possible for FluentCRM to allow duplicate Company names, or provide a setting/filter that makes the unique Company name validation optional?
This would make the Company module more flexible for users who need to manage organizations where names may repeat across different locations.
Thanks in advance for considering this.
All the best!
