URL-based coupons

We don't want to use a coupon field at checkout, because it usually leads to customers navigating away from the checkout process to search for coupon codes online.

We prefer to generate automatically applied URL coupons that can be embedded into an email. I'll give you a scenario:

We email customers a newsletter or sales announcement that has a clickable link to the e-comm site. When a customer arrives at the site from that link, it will automatically apply 10% or 20% (etc) off everything they place in their cart. Then, when they checkout, the discount is already applied; no coupon code field required.

We would advocate for that feature in the strongest terms--coupon fields are a conversion killer--customers get distracted, leave the site, get disappointed not to find a coupon code, and run into spammy coupon sites that leave a bitter experience reflecting on the shop. It also increases email open rates, if a customer knows that's the only way to receive discounts.

Ripon SarkarΒ so reverse engineering what you've shown here:

  1. get direct link from product
  2. add UTM "coupons=couponcode" replacing couponcode with the actual code
NOTE: if adding it at the end of capturing the direct link in step 1, an "&" would need to be added to the URL before adding the info from step 2

Ripon SarkarΒ Thank you very much--I see you removed the 'Have a Coupon?' field that was there earlier; that's exactly what I am trying to do.

I can see where this would work for an individual product in an email, but I'm trying to have a percentage applied to the entire cart as the customer shops for multiple items. Still very interested in having this introduced as a core feature if FC wants to be a viable option for physical product shops.

I'm thinking something like a special 'apply via URL' in coupon settings where FC would automatically generate a unique URL or allow me to append a query string of some kind. In the meantime, still not 100% sure how to create an elegant work-around that makes the coupon field unnecessary.

Janice BennettΒ Thank you! Hopefully you and I aren't the only ones looking for this functionality. As I said, coupon fields are an absolute conversion killer!

PaulaΒ this is a great question - thanks for asking
