Trigger an Automation With a Product Variation?

I have desperately been trying to figure out a way to give people free trial memberships without them having to enter a credit card.

It's not possible with a subscription product...

BUT

I figured this workaround would work:
I made a special product that is not a subscription, but will give access to a membership by applying the appropriate FCRM membership tag when purchased.

The idea was to give people coupons to buy this, which would trigger FluentCRM to tag them with the appropriate membership access status tag.

Then an automation would cause their access to expire at the appropriate time.

The product I made for this has 3 variations (1 Day, 1 Month, 6 Months)

The problem is that Automations don't have any way of identifying which variation the customer purchased. That I can see at least.

This means I would have to create 6 extra products to be able to give free trials for the existing 2 subscription products. (I have two levels of membership and 3 time periods)

This means I would need to have 9 products when I really only have 2 different ones (Regular and Pro)

Seems like a logistical disaster in the making.

Anyone have any ideas to solve this?
