Test Customized Emails?

Please tell me that it is possible to send test emails to make sure layout, variables, and merge tags are working when customizing the body of FC reminders and notifications without having to actually run a test and wait and wait for the email to be generated? This seems like a no-brainer to me, but I can't figure out how to do it.
