State-Level Tax Setup (USA)

I'm finally getting around to migrating to FluentCart, and went to setup my taxes. I need to collect sales tax for my state (Maine), but do not need to collect for other states. It looks like I can only setup territories based on country, however?

So, I setup North America, and when I go to view those sales tax rates, it lists all of the states with the various options available for each and says right on the page: "Regions you're collecting in"

Is there a way to mass-delete all 147 irrelevant tax rates (that I don't need to charge) and just leave my state ones other than going through them one at a time? (Or, I suppose, I only need to do 97, since the "Zero/Exempt" is already a 0% rate anyway...)

Or am I setting this up incorrectly and missed a step somewhere?

I've checked the documentation but it only deals with country-level taxation as the finest drill-down point.

I have the same question for North Carolina.

From support:

Hello Blaine,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you due to the EID Vacation. Regarding your query, you haven't missed a step, currently, the system doesn't have a "Bulk Delete" or "Mass Edit" feature for tax rates on that specific page. Because of this, you unfortunately cannot mass-delete the irrelevant states all at once.

To ensure sales tax is only collected for Maine, you will need to go through the list and manually change the tax rate for all the other states toΒ 0% (or assign them to the Zero/Exempt tax class).

To get your taxes set up correctly:

  1. LocateΒ MaineΒ in your list and set it to your required state sales tax percentage (e.g., your Standard rate).
  2. For all the other states you don't collect tax in, manually edit them one at a time and ensure their rate is set toΒ 0%.

Since you mentioned the "Zero/Exempt" rate is already sitting at 0%, applying that to the other states will perfectly ensure no tax is accidentally charged to customers checking out outside of Maine.

We completely understand that going through them one at a time is tedious during setup, and we really appreciate your patience! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Blaine, how are you handling sales tax for local jurisdictions? I am in Alabama and we state, county, and sometimes city sales tax based on zip code. Looking at the tax rate setup in FluentCart, it is really poor for the U.S. I hope that the developers will allow integration with other Tax plugins like Stripe Tax.

Matthew NiemillerΒ I'm located in Maine so only have to worry about state sales tax, not county or city.
