Proposal for Improved Artwork Image Protection Features in E-commerce Platforms
Please consider adding a robust feature to protect artwork and images from unauthorized use, copying, or AI-based replication. This protection could include visible watermarks, embedded digital signatures, and restrictions on downloading or right-click saving. Incorporating monitoring tools to track online image usage and using subtle AI techniques would improve security and protect artists' intellectual property.
Hello Winston!
Iβd definitely love to see something like this πͺ
Iβve even shared some ideas in the past regarding legal protections and possible enhancements.
But honestly, I donβt think this belongs on the Cart side π
Hereβs what Iβd suggest instead:
- DMCA registration (eg.: you can use private services like this for getting a notification): their system will notify you whenever your work is used. You can then decide whether to file a claim or not (works quite similarly to YouTubeβs approach). Itβs fast and effective.
- Technical layer: use storage services like Bunny buckets, where you can restrict media access exclusively to your own domain (e.g. Bunny Storage (referrer) protection).
- Legal protection: consider registering your brand, IP, and works. While in some cases itβs not strictly compulsory (with nuances), it makes claims much easier to enforce and is a basic step for any creator looking to monetize or license their work.
If you want to ban copy and paste, or right click options, you can do so with a script. But anyone with a minimum knowledge of dev console can access the file. You may want to check options for protect files with download or similar (like with token auth).
Jorge de los ReyesΒ For small shops selling physical wall art, a simple image protection featureβlike a watermark or low-resolution preview in the shopping cartβmakes sense. Itβs an easy way to deter casual copying without complicated setups, especially when the product isnβt a digital download. This helps mom-and-pop stores protect their artwork while keeping the buying experience smooth.
Winston DavisΒ Iβll love to see this level of detail and features on Fluent Cart tbh! Watermarking, hashing and signing, has, sadly, always been something we had to do off-store π .
As a seller, how can I use Fluent Cartβs licensing feature to offer a Certificate of Authenticity or artist statement as a downloadable PDF linked on my product page? I want my customers to easily access and download this document after purchase. Is there a built-in option to upload or link such PDFs within Fluent Cart for this purpose?
