Initial Suggestions for FluentCart: Shipping Methods

Currently, the shipping system is very basic. To provide from the outset a truly useful and flexible solution, I propose:

• Shipping Zones Management

  • Allow defining as many “zones” as each store needs (by country, state/province or postal-code ranges).

• Zone-Based Rate Tables

  • For each zone, configure a rate table based on:

    • Gross weight (e.g., 0–1 kg, 1–5 kg, 5+ kg).
    • Volume (length × width × height ÷ configurable volumetric factor).

  • Volumetric calculation will be essential for lightweight, bulky items (e.g., cushions or pillows), ensuring the rate reflects the space they occupy in transit.

• Weight & Dimensions Fields on Product Page

  • Include mandatory fields for every product:

    • Weight (kg)
    • Length, Width and Height (cm)

  • Add a checkbox to indicate whether these values apply at:

    1. Global level (same values for all variations).
    2. Per variation (each variant can have different measurements).

With this setup, FluentCart will have from day one a robust and fully configurable shipping system capable of adapting to any store model and product profile.
