Cancel order (in account)
Hi, as of 19/06/2026, in Belgium we need to provide B2C customers an easy way to cancel their orders untill 14 days after purchase (digital) or 14 days after receival (physical).
Is it possible to add a simple cancel button in their account, after each order, that disables after a certain period (say 14 days)?
Nice. A cancel order button would be nice to have in general. Though I wonder what the process would be for physical products that have already been shipped and the customer cancels the order? What happens then? Does the store incur the shipping costs? And what if you sold an ebook, the customer has downloaded it, then cancels their order for their money back? They just got a free ebook.
I like how bol.com handles order cancellation. They keep you informed at every step and tell you beforehand what happens if you cancel in the account dashboard, and with a series of notification emails.
F. C.Β I hear you. It definately needs more thinking/logic than just a cancel button. I also don't know what the law will say to this at the moment, but I keep my eyes on this
Natascha VantuykomΒ Indeed, this needs more thought. I rarely ever see cancel order buttons on small to mid-sized stores. Only really large parties like bol.com (Netherlands) offer a cancel button. They try to stop the order from being shipped from their warehouse when you cancel early, but if that fails you can either refuse the package upon delivery or simply return it back to them. When an order has been shipped however, the cancel order option is no longer available.
Does Belgium not have some sort of 'right to return' consumer law? We have it here in the Netherlands so you can return products, usually withing 14 (minimum) or 30 days after delivery, without even having to provide a reason, and you get your money back.
F. C.Β yes we do, but as of June, it will be 'more consumer friendly', that means harder for businesses π
