Wordpress Multisite for multiple communities with shared logins?
Is anyone here using multisite to host multiple communities with a unified login system for the purpose of giving users access to all the communities?
I'd like to explore this use case to have a network of communities but I'm not sure of the best UI to allow users to switch between the network sub-sites.
Assuming multisite would work, perhaps a link to a non-community directory page embeded into the header?
I think the most suitable plugin for this purpose is WP Remote User Sync, which is completely free and which I’ll also be using on multiple installations (not multisite, but it works perfectly with multisite).
Linda Rando tested that plug-in and I found that it works well.
From my understanding of WordPress multi site, all users are automatically shared by default so if you also have the goal of allowing users to access multiple communities via the same login, you don’t actually need to use another plug-in to accomplish that.

I have a multisite. FYI, each subsite requires an additional Fluent Community license.
The FComm plugin utilizes default Wordpress login functionality, which allows registered users login access to all subsites in the multisite network.
In my multisite, I need registered users to have restricted login access to the FComm portal they registered at/for - not the default Wordpress login access to every subsite in the network.
Still searching for a solution for my project.

WP fusion Pro does exactly what you want here .
I'm not sure if you're familiar with that plugin but it's been one of the most useful plugins for me over the past 6 years .
What example is fluent community has the ability to link tags to certain spaces or courses. However there's currently a bug and that doesn't work but with WP fusion it works perfectly.
I just realized that WP fusion also has the option for you to require a specific tag for registered members to be able to access a given community.
Since you can change this setting on every sub site, meaning that you can either have every sub site require the same tag or each subsite can require a unique tag I think this will accomplish what you need.
Let's keep in touch because this multi-site thing is something that I haven't started experimenting with but it will be a big part of a plan that I have going forward.
Thank you for this insight - will check out WP Fusion Pro. I am also looking into a membership plugin with content restriction ability. Perhaps, such a plugin will override the default Wordpress user registration functionality and permit me to restrict access to individual FComm portals. Fingers crossed! Am waiting to hear from them.
In my multisite each subsite portal is accessible via MainSiteName.org/Subsite/portal. Each FComm portal subsite has its own content and does not commingle content among subsites.
I wish each FComm license had the choice to share Wordpress registered users across all subsites or make them site specific.
My default FComm signup is set up using the FComm default registration form - as MainSiteName.org/Subsite/portal/?com_action=auth&form=register. I thought that using the sub-directory would create subsite specific login access, but it does not.
Consequently, because FComm uses the default Wordpress registration and login functionality, I could just create one registration form for the core site (MainSiteName.org/portal/?com_action=auth&form=register), since registered users have login access to all subsites in the multisite.
