What is your attitude towards posts generated by AI?
It seems everyone has come across a perfectly polished text with a ready-made cover image β publications that sound correct on the surface, yet something inside feels off, as if no normal person actually writes or reasons this way. Still, we often believe we must be perfect, or we doubt our own abilities, and so we end up trusting AI, which subtly wins us over with its simplicity and accessibility. But is this really as good as it looks? Iβm sure when you read such posts, you shake your head and judge the author β and yet next time, even unintentionally, even occasionally, you hand your work to ChatGPT or Grok. I admit it: Iβm describing myself.
This is especially true in Fcom, where you pour your thoughts and soul into a post β and then a random click wipes everything out (please fix this). Add the responsibility in front of your audience: youβve become the creator of a whole community, people trust you, they expect something from you, and no one but you has the need or desire to βproduceβ the content. Thatβs when the forbidden fruit tempts you β and suddenly youβre producing uniform, same-sounding text. I hope the opposite is true, because if you were inspired to write something like this, youβre clearly talented.
If youβve read this far, thatβs nice β this text was created through genuine interaction, and for that Iβll reward my brain with a piece of chocolate. So let me reassure you: using AI is perfectly normal in many scenarios β for example, fixing mistakes, translating text, improving structure, removing filler. You can also delegate to AI all the tasks you would give a junior assistant: someone with little experience but plenty of enthusiasm, who does things quickly and formulaically to free you from routine. But would you trust your junior assistant with something important? Writing your scientific paper, a book under your name? Running your opinion column in a media outlet? His mistakes and mediocrity would be entirely your responsibility. You would look foolish if your junior assistant voiced his thoughts instead of yours.
What is the point of this post? Fcom is a great platform for micro-blogging and sharing opinions, for discussion and social activity. And people are naturally imperfect: you can be a brilliant mathematician and still draw poorly; you can be very communicative and yet have had low grades in school. But the value of your interaction with the community is not a standardized, AI-generated block of text β it is your perspective, your attitude, the conclusions you arrive at, your personal experience. As they say, βbeauty lies in imperfection.β
βTranslated with the help of ChatGPT, the text was not modified or improved.β
One time I had 20+ AI posts, all of them were deindexed by google.
Depends on the intent and context.
If youβre just feeding it an idea and having it do all the work, no.
If youβre using it to clean up and improve your work, yes. I say this because itβs similar to having someone proofread and provide feedback on your work, and then implementing it.
Jeff BrigmanΒ posting frivolous stuff from chatgpt will have zero effect. Over time, I have found out that hiring an AI writer can be just as expensive than a human writer. Google has gotten very good in detecting AI written content and only should be attempted by an AI expert that knows his stuff, and you may not get the google love that you would get from a human writer π
