Spaces itself is not enough to run a thriving community.

Today, WhatsApp is free and offers significantly more features. There are also platforms like Microsoft Teams, Discord, Slack, and others that provide richer collaboration and engagement tools. A community platform needs to offer unique value beyond basic chat and discussion spaces.

There are many improvements that could enhance Spaces:

• Bring back Articles. Long-form content is essential for knowledge sharing, guides, FAQs, announcements, and community documentation.

• Introduce granular access controls. The current roles of User, Moderator, and Admin are too limited. Communities need customizable roles and permissions for content creation, moderation, event management, analytics access, article publishing, and more.

• Extend the Polls feature. I previously suggested improvements to polls, and the idea was well received, but it was never implemented. Polls should support multiple rounds, weighted voting, anonymous voting, scheduling, and result segmentation.

  1. Bookings Integration

     • Allow members to book consultations, mentoring sessions, discovery calls, events, or services directly within the community.

  2. Business Directory

     • Communities already contain member profiles, businesses, skills, and services. A searchable directory could automatically organize this information and create more networking opportunities.

  3. Community Challenges

     • Run monthly challenges, accountability programs, competitions, and engagement campaigns with progress tracking and rewards.

  4. Featured Member Spotlight

     • Highlight a member, contributor, creator, or expert on the community homepage.

  5. Featured Business Spotlight

     • Give businesses visibility through rotating featured listings, promotions, and success stories.

  6. Featured Post Section

     • Allow admins to pin and showcase high-value discussions, announcements, and community wins.

  7. Advanced Automation Workflows

     • Beyond basic automations:

       • Promote members based on activity.
       • Automatically recommend groups.
       • Trigger onboarding journeys.
       • Unlock content based on milestones.
       • Create engagement campaigns for inactive members.
       • Assign badges and achievements automatically.

  8. Guidelines Tab

     • A dedicated tab alongside Posts and Articles for community rules, onboarding instructions, FAQs, and best practices.

  9. Member Journey Builder

     • Create structured onboarding paths for new members with tasks, content, milestones, and progress tracking.

  10. Resource Hub

      • A dedicated area for files, templates, downloads, links, recordings, and community assets.

  11. Expert / Mentor Directory

      • Let members discover experts and mentors based on expertise, ratings, availability, and interests.

  12. Community Recommendations Engine

      • Suggest relevant people, businesses, spaces, workgroups, events, and content based on member interests and activity
