You're selling a highly technical product to somebody who has been paying kinsta $1,000 per month for the past 6 years.

I suppose a better question would be if you could tell me what spin up WP does that you currently cannot do since that would probably be a shorter list at this point in time.

Currently I use spin up for bulk testing if an idea will work and then if it does I move it over to managed hosting.

It would be very beneficial to me if I could feasibly test an idea but also scale it on the same platform.

Uptime is the only priority. But a significant part of uptime especially when it comes to WordPress is the support and kinsta has been great in this regard.

So that would be another question, if something breaks can I contact somebody there immediately and have it solved immediately?

I understand if that's not your business model, I don't expect that I'll be able to just migrate all of my sites away from Kinsta but I am always looking for options.

TLDR I just want something that's going to work and if it breaks, to have the support needed to get it back online as quickly as possible.

I'm probably much more of a customer for managed hosting services but I'm curious to know where xcloud fits in the picture.

I appreciate the response and it does give me additional context.

I’m sure you know any migrations always Zand unknown pitfalls, which is part of why offering any kind of backbone related service can be lucrative in a long-term, people just don’t want to change.

I’ve had sites online since pair.net came into existence (mid 90s) so I always like to keep an eye on what new entrants into the industry are doing.

I found it if the stock is well managed there are rarely problems that are extremely critical.

I’ll take a look at your managed offerings on the website, but it would be nice to have a relationship that leverages the strength of large providers in an easy to manage way.

From my perspective, you have a good product, but it’s presented in a way that makes it difficult for mass-market users to really understand what they’re buying.

Many people have a specific need and you can help them bridge that gap but from a marketing perspective there are a few steps that are still missing.

It’s tricky because you’re coming from a technical background so you’re selling the features instead of selling the benefits. But that’s just a marketing perspective.

Thomas Oates impressive. what plugin does it use? I just migrated my first from Gridpane using Migrate Guru. That was fine, but if the built in beta is working then I'm all about it.

Replying to myself....possible issue. As part of the migration to xCloud, I setup a new Vultr VPS with the same specs and location as the existing Cloudpanel one (4 vCPU, 8GB, 180GB NVMe storage). None of the sites I migrated to the new xCloud managed VPS get much traffic. The non-FluentCommunity sites all seem very fast with no issues. However, the FluentCommunity site I moved over is slower than on the Cloudpanel VPS. It isn't incredibly slower but it definitely loads slower. I know there are tons of variables involved so the cause may be hard to find. Fortunately, the FluentCommunity site isn't live yet so I have time to do more investigation. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thomas Oates Make sure you enable Object Caching for the site.

Shahjahan Jewel I did. I even tried disabling it to see if that would make a difference and it didn't. The install on the old Vultr Cloudpanel VPS did not have object caching enabled and it is still faster.

I just noticed something weird in the browser console. When I access FC on the new xCloud host I get lots of "Mixed Content: The page at 'https://siteurl.com' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure element 'http://siteurl.com/wp-content/uploads/fluent-community/imagefile.webp'. This request was automatically upgraded to HTTPS." It looks like it is doing this for all the images. This isn't happening on the original Cloudpanel site. Is there some way to make FC not try to load http version of images? Maybe something got changed during the migration process when initially I didn't enable HTTPS until after the migration was finished?

Thomas Oates wondering if this could be an absence of Strict Transport Security for your site headers in nginx? I just moved my first site over from Gridpane, and GP has security header info for nginx built in—not everything but more than the default. xCloud allows you to edit nginx server conf from sites > sitename > tools > nginx configuration. If I add the header info it validates but doesn't take right. Have a ticket open with support on it right now.

This is what you want in the nginx server block (if this is even the issue as maybe it's db rewrites after ssl or something beyond my pay grade):

add_header Strict-Transport-Security "max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains" always;

Shahjahan Jewel I just noticed that all the media_url paths in the wp_fcom_media_archive table start with http instead of https. I manually changed them all (only 32 records) to start with https but that didn't help. I still get the 'Mixed content' error for all images on any FC page. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks!!

EDIT: This issue isn't specific to FluentCommunity. The other WordPress sites I moved over also got links to the site on all pages changed to http instead of https. I suspect the xCloud migration process does a search and replace from the old site url to the new site url and since I didn't initially enable HTTPS, it replaced all the links with HTTP.

kyler boudreau Check out my update on my original comment above. It isn't just an issue with FluentCommunity sites. It may be that I simply didn't select the right options during the migration. Not sure yet.

kyler boudreau You can run this WP Command via xCloud:

wp search-replace http://yoursite.com https://yoursite.com

This will replace all the http to https

Shahjahan Jewel Thanks. I didn't do that but I did do another full migration from the Cloudpanel VPS to the xCloud VPS. This time I chose to use a staging site instead of the live domain. I'm not getting the 'Mixed content' errors any longer but performance is the same (slower than running it on the Cloudpanel VPS). Performance isn't horrible and I probably would be happy with FC on the xCloud VPS had I not experienced the faster performance on the Cloudpanel VPS. Page loads take about twice as long vs on the old VPS. Any other ideas? I know there are ton of variables involved. Thanks!!

kyler boudreau xCloud support recommended I use the demo/staging site option during the migration and then add the real domain name after the migration completes. That works to avoid the 'Mixed content' errors but performance is still worse than with the Cloudpanel VPS.

Ivan Oung I'm in the process of moving from Gridpane now. There are some things that GP does differently like you can have root access to all sites on your server while xCloud forces separate sFTP accounts for each site which are of course restricted to that site. That's kind of a pain, but also more secure.

1) GP adds a tad more secure header stuff in for nginx sites by default, but still doesn't cover everything. xCloud adds a little less, but allows you to edit the nginx server block from inside the xCloud interface which is really nice.

2) GP only supports SendGrid for email. xCloud supports many and even offers their own transactional email service.

3) GP has a few highly-priced add-ons like Relay and Fortress. I've used both and cancelled both.

4) xCloud gives you more access to the items in the admin and I'm enjoying that. Like the nginx configs, etc.

5) Gridpane already has the Ubuntu 24.x stack available for server builds. But xCloud said they will have it next month.

6) Gridpane doesn't offer the 8G firewall yet. xCloud does.

7) Gridpane is much more expensive. Sure they have their free plan, but there is zero support—you're on your own.

8) xCloud does other cool things like a file browser for servers in the admin, slack notifications, etc.

So far, I'm very happy with the move to xCloud. Still testing. Still sorting. But happy.

You will be able to select the Ubuntu version while deploying a server in xCloud now.

And you can create a root user via our sudo user feature and use that with FileZilla and FTP client. just published a quick doc for you:

Ivan Oung I haven't been with them long enough to answer that. But with Gridpane I was on the Panel plan, so I didn't even have much support. I had to pose in the community and then if an admin saw I needed help they'd turn it into a ticket. To get actual support from GP like I have now with xCloud, you had to be on a developer plan, and those are crazy pricey for my size of business.
