Simple Styling Wins (Pt. 3)
This time it comes with a bit of a story...
My audience is not techy Wordpress users. They are SaaS users that aren't necessarily interested in the power or configuration of Wordpress. They just want software solutions that work and look good.
For them Circle.so, Mighty Networks, and Skool are usually the only community software they are aware of. Recently, I mentioned there is a Wordpress alternative with a lifetime payment, same look and feel, and more flexibility (especially around your data).
They were intrigued but I could tell they didn't believe me (they swore Circle.so was the gold standard. Primarily because of big names like Pat Flynn promoting it).
So I fired up my inspector and within 5 minutes made some CSS edits to the FluentCommunity page pulled it up and asked them if they could tell a difference.
That's what you see in the attached image.
I understand FluentCommunity's design and functionality has been heavily influenced by Circle and I think that's a good thing as it removes the primary objective I get more often than not about "it needs to look nice".
Needless to say, they were impressed and are now in the process of setting up their first FluentCommunity (they were already using FluentForms on their site so it wasn't too much of a shock to them when they found out the Fluent team was behind the community software).
Just for fun...can you all tell the minor edits I made to FC to mimic Circle? I actually like how it turned out.
WOW! That's an incredible story. Thank you for sharing π
Shahjahan JewelΒ thank you for the amazing product and ongoing development! You all are truly disrupting the space in a well needed way.
Omg, fc copied circle? π± I cant tell the difference π
David ScurlockΒ π
Chris DavisΒ I guess if you are going to copy someone, then it is best to copy someone that is successful...
David ScurlockΒ At one time, VK copied Facebook ) Everyone is inspired by something, borrowing ideas from each other.
David ScurlockΒ absolutely. Everyone is "inspired" by someone. I'm sure Circle found inspiration somewhere as well. I welcome it as it helps companies like FluentCommunity get the the market quicker.
One thing I noticed, the image I uploaded has a much lower resolution than the original file on my computer. Perhaps FC is doing some image processing to keep file sizes smaller but sacrificing resolution in the process.
Chris DavisΒ Yes I believe FC is automatically optimizing the photo, converting it to WEBP format. It would nice if there was some control over that. I have noticed image quality can be degraded significantly if the original photo is very sharp (high resolution).
