Setting Expectations

This would prevent me from investing into this plugin. I mean WordPress already comes with it's powerful Gutenberg editor. Me and my clients love it and I've shown them how to create beautiful course content in addition to their videos.

These days people expect more than a wall of text when buying a course. And with Gutenberg it's possible to create colored boxes, accordions, SVG icons and so on to highlight important pieces.

I would love to see an option to enable the full Gutenberg editor in a future update.

I just checked the current release but the lesson editor is still only a stripped down version of the WordPress Block editor:

• for the existing blocks all settings from the Gutenberg sidebar are not accessible
• list block looses formatting after saving a lesson
• columns block looses it's columns after saving a lesson
• no shortcode (tested with Fluent Forms) is executed on frontend
• block pattern library not accessible
• all other native WordPress blocks are missing

If you ask me, I don't need any extra pagebuilder like Elementor on top.

But I need full features of the native WordPress block editor. I think it doesn't make much sense to reinvent the wheel with this minimal block editor we have right now.

As I understand the WordPress block editor only loads additional assets for the blocks being used. So when activating it there shouldn't be a performance hit on the frontend.

This is why I feel it's important to set expectations Shahjahan Jewel - almost none of WordPress is loaded when inside the portal. Have a look in the Sources on DevTools and you will see the only file being called from wp-included is jquery.

The reason it's so fast is this isn't WP as we know it.

And even with those limitations, I'm buying!

If it's not WordPess then this is not for me and not for my clients as well. Right now we use Learndash on many sites but most advanced features are not used here. My clients mainly love Learndash for the clean frontend lesson layout but they don't love the complex course management in the backend.

This is why I thought FluentCommunity could be a good alternative. But we need a native WordPress solution with the native block editor. For lessons with lot's of additional text content there must be enough ways of formatting as mentioned in my first comment. The time for courses with just a wall of text is over.

The Gutenberg block editor is fast as long as you don't install 10 block plugins and insert hundreds of blocks. So I hope there will be a way to enable the Gutenberg block editor at least in a separate tab to create well-formatted lessons.

In my current course, I use shortcodes to render directories of PDF downloads, and other Gutenberg blocks to format information and embed content in user-friendly ways. I can't buy this more-sophisticated solution only to have a less-sophisticated user experience in the course pages.
