Problems with Fluent Community Portal and Upgrading to Pro

I tried installing the pro versions of FluentCRM and Fluent Community and get the following error message: "Please select a file". I was instructed to deactivate "Security Optimizer by SiteGround", which I did, but still got the same error message. In addition, for the free version of Fluent Community, I created a portal URL but when I go to the page I get a 404 error message. I'm not sure what steps I need to take to get the community up and running and to upgrade to Pro. Thank you.

Eric OsanskyΒ once the plugin has been installed and the 404 error appeared please resave your permalinks (clear cache if needed) and it should be fixed: wp-admin > Settings > Permalink Settings

Note: if you want to activate your Pro license key (if you don't have it you can get it from the official website: https://fluentcommunity.co) you can do it in wp-admin > Fluent Community > License Management

/wp-admin/admin.php?page=fluent-community&license=yes

Mat β€ŽΒ thank you! I do have both license keys, but it won't even let me get to that point, as when I try to install the plugin I get the "Please select a file" message. I even hired someone from Fiverr to do it on their end and they're unable to install the plugin as well. So we need to figure out what else we can do to successfully install the plugins since deactivating "Security Optimizer" didn't work. Thanks again!

Mat β€ŽΒ perhaps to make it easier I put together a quick loom video (less than 2 minutes) to demonstrate what's going on and what I've done:

Thanks again for your assistance!

Eric OsanskyΒ you could try to upload the plugin via ftp (or Direct Admin file manager) and unzip it in the /plugins folder manually. Then Activate the manually uploaded plugin after in /wp-admin/plugins

But still there is something with your WP, .htaccess or wp-config.php or hosting account settings (including plugin folder permissions) that is locking this.

Do you see any error in the browser Dev Tools F12: console log/Network? If not then ask you hosting guys for help.

Mat β€Ž

Eric OsanskyΒ for the 404 error did you resave your permalinks as suggested above? It might help.since you are using a custom slug for your community.

Mat β€Ž

Eric OsanskyΒ That "please select a file" screen usually means that your PHP installs temporary directory is not writeable - folder premissions related.

I hope you did not follow some crazy WP hardening rules to protect your plugins folders - if you did then just think what was it.

If you manually changed the plugin folder permissions on the past then just restore the original one and it should be fixed (chmod 755).

Ps. I assume you cannot upload any plugin at all and you have the same screen while trying installing any plugin right?

I assume that you have tried to use other browser incognito/private mode (to avoid some browser impact extensions etc), right?

Eric Osansky

Mat β€ŽΒ thank you for your response. I've never saved permalinks before, and so I'll have to see if I can figure out. I'm pretty sure I didn't follow any WP hardening rules to protect my plugins folder.

After reading your message I just tried going under incognito/private mode and I'm still getting the same message.

Thanks again for your help, as I'll look at the advice you gave me and run it by the person that's helping me, and perhaps my hosting company like you suggested.

Thanks again!

Eric OsanskyΒ hey no worries. Just follow these simple steps.

1.Go to your wp-admin > Settings > Permalink

domain.com/wp-admin/options-permalink.php

2.Click Save button

3.Check if your community custom url works or if you still have 404 error.

Eric Osansky

Mat β€ŽΒ thank you, as saving the Permalinks worked and got rid of the 404 error message! As for the other problem, I wasn't able to fix it, but thankfully I have another WP site and was able to successfully install the zip files and so I'm good to go. Thanks again for your help!
