FluentSnippets is powering 50,000+ websites, a new design release, and the story behind it π
FluentSnippets just crossed 50,000 active installs on WordPress.org π
Most of you don't know how this plugin actually started, so let me share it today.
A few years back, I was looking at the snippet plugins in the repository, and all of them were saving your PHP code in the database and running it on every request. I didn't like that at all. Code should live in files, not in the database. So I built my own version, where every snippet is a real PHP file on the server.
I submitted it to WordPress.org, and it got rejected. They had simply stopped accepting new plugins in the code execution category. So I had a finished plugin and no way to give it to anyone.
Then I thought, ok, new plugins can't get in, but old plugins can change hands. I searched the repository and found Easy Code Manager. Around 1,000 installs and no update for almost 3 years. I emailed the developer; he was happy that someone wanted it, we agreed on a price, and I bought the plugin.
After that, I replaced everything inside with the plugin I had already built. My very first release moved all of their snippets to the file-based system automatically on update, because those 1,000 sites are important for me as well.
And this is also the reason the WordPress.org URL still says easy-code-manager. A lot of people ask me about this π
That was 3 years ago. Now it is 50,000+ sites. Still 100% free, no pro version, no upsell, and I still build it on weekends.
Today 10.56 is out. It's a full redesign with dark mode on every screen, plus a lot of work under the hood for fatal error handling, speed, and permissions.
Just update from Plugins β Updates. Full details and screenshots here: https://fluentsnippets.com/articles/fluentsnippets-10-56
Thank you to all 50,000 of you π
Congrats Jewel. It's undoubtedly an amazing plugin!
Jorge de los ReyesΒ I very much agree..:)
Jorge de los ReyesΒ one that deserves its place amongst the Fluent panel :p
AS WΒ yas! Iβve seen itβs coming soon π
I use it on all of my sites now and always wondered why it was called "easy-code-manager". Congrats on the big update!
PS. Would love to see Fluent Comments get some love. I think it has the potential to be the next plugin to 50,000+ installs.
Amazing... I love the story part
congrats
btw it is not in the hub yet :)
Julian BrinkeΒ Will be available in the next hub's update. Most probably next weekend -_-

Shahjahan JewelΒ Sent it to you in a DM
Our go-to plugin for all the sites we manage.
Love it, and well deserved 50K Shahjahan JewelΒ . Thanks for it!
Multisite support would be the only missing thing to make it a perfect solution
Would be great to have the ability to rename snippet groups and tags
Itβs a fantastic plugin. I submitted a 5 star review of it today in the Wordpress repository.
My problem with this plugin is that sometimes you can't add the code because it gives Wordpress permission errors, and the only way to add the code is to edit functions.php and reupload the file via FTP.
Alan MathewΒ Got it. Thank you.
Shahjahan JewelΒ , I truly admire your ingenuity, determination, and sense of quality. Congratulations.
It's a beautiful story and didn't know about it's existence, but now I'll begin to use it, thanks! :D
I use FluentSnippets on a few of my sites. It really does help me a lot. Thx Shahjahan.
Great!! One of my best and evergreen, I'd love a better UI with a more material modern design but it's already almost perfect. That's just to be more fancy
