FEATURE REQUEST: Email address in Profile
In some use cases, members may want to make their email addresses visible to the community.
It would be very helpful if "Email" could be added as an option to add to one's profile links (along with the social links, website, etc.)
That's a bit tricky as it's a huge privacy issue. We have added a rich text editor for the profile description. so anyone can add their contact information in the description field.
Shahjahan Jewel, Thank you for clarifying. I do understand there are privacy implications.
That being said, an example of the above in use is with the Graduway platform (an alumni engagement platform for schools).
On their platform (which is a closed/private platform), members are given the option to add their contact information to their profile (ie. email, phone number etc.)
Would you be willing to consider a profile management checkbox "Display my email address on my profile"? And this checkbox could automatically be hidden/disabled if the Global Community Portal Access Settings is set to "Everyone" (to ensure that only private community members can see other members' email addresses, if shared).
An alternative could also be a "send email to member" button.
This would open a message form which would insert the message into a transactional email to the recipient member.
This would allow them to receive an email without revealing their actual email address on the platform.
Do you really want them to leave the community and converse on an other channel? The community should be where they meet and talk, else nothing common and no common-unity.
Volker Knöringer, in some use cases, yes - absolutely. Members being able to personally connect through email would be desirable.
And in some use cases, no - absolutely not! 😃
I've been on a number of platforms where adding your email to your profile is an option.
As long as this is OFF by default and maybe a privacy warning popup shows up when you decide to make it public, I think it is a great option for those who wish to or need to do it this way.
